His 1981 paper, "Untraceable Electronic Mail, Return Addresses, and Digital Pseudonyms", laid the groundwork for the field of anonymous communications research.
The project stagnates until others enter the project who are not supposed to be involved.
Mix networks and blind signatures are innovated during this epoch. In 1982, blind signature is a type of a digital signature used in the protocols where the signer and message author are different parties, mostly, in digital payment or voting systems. Chaum's group of technologists are behind it.
It wasn't until 1990 that Lansky's vision for private money meets Chaum's creation. From 1990-94 things ramp up because cypherpunks are all working on this project all over the world.
Lansky's private project is now fully open sourced and being rapidly improved compared to the BIS project called a CBDC.
