From the new issue of the German "Der Spiegel": A document found in the British National Archive deals with a meeting in Bonn on March 6, 1991. It attests that UK, US, Germany and France agreed that #NATO membership for the Eastern European countries was "unacceptable."
According to this document, Bonn's representative, Jürgen Chrobog, stated: "We have made it clear in the 2 plus 4 negotiations that we will not extend NATO beyond the Elbe. We therefore cannot offer NATO membership to Poland and the others."

Briefly on Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's visit to Russia: Since Bosonaro’s election victory in 2018 I was wondering whether and when he would visit Moscow, for all Brazilian presidents before him, starting with Fernando Henrique Cardoso in 2002, did so. 1/10
So the announcement of this visit in December 2021 was quite interesting. However, during his election campaign, Bolsonaro clearly indicated US and Donald Trump as his role model. That would have made a rapprochement with Putin rather counterproductive. 2/10

1. As the picture is slowly becoming clearer, I have now decided to write a longer thread about what is happening in my country. It is based on conversations with my family in #Almaty, existing (incomplete information) in various media from #Kazakhstan and people I trust.
2. It is important to understand that there are two processes going on in Kazakhstan: social protests of the people who are fed up with the existing injustice, inequality, corruption and kleptocracy and at the same time a power struggle between the two clans:
