I see "Song of the South" trending and I thought i would say something about it.

A thread

I am okay with people throwing out the disney movie but the danger is that you don't thrown out too much with this. 1/ 2/ as i understand the history behind it all, it goes like this. These started out as folk tales told by slaves on the plantations. Then a white guy gathered these stories and published them pretending they were told by a fictional man named Uncle Remus.

OK that last bit’s pretty funny. But considering how badly they’ve been screwing up Star Wars, I have no faith in this right now. But is this basically a prequel to the crystal skull? Because that looks like he’s fighting Nazis 1/ 2/ and of course Nazis didn’t exist very much after World War II. At least not the kind to go around wearing Nazi uniforms. so maybe this is some kind of remnant? 🤷‍♂️ or are they just going to pretend that the crystal skull didn’t happen?

If you can’t handle a lawyer saying things you don’t agree with, you shouldn’t be a lawyer. Our entire legal system is built around disagreement. We call it an adversarial system for a reason and if a case is not truly adversarial, the federal courts will drop it I will add that, even if you work in one of the legal professions that doesn’t require you to go to court, such as contract writing, you still face the possibility of what you do being reviewed by court, including by an attorney, who has an incentive to interpret everything…

By the way, what we’re seeing with the #PaulPelosi situation is the other side of the hypocrisy coin. We have seen a lot of “it’s different when our side does it.“ Now we’re saying “it’s different when it happens to us.” 1/ 2/ I mean this could be a moment when Nancy Pelosi says “having had violence brought home to me, I admit it has opened my eyes. I should have funded more security for supreme court justices… I should have chastised my daughter for praising Rand Paul’s attacker.”

If you want to understand why #Fetterman is unqualified for any legislative office, here’s an example. I am quite tweeting a thread I posted during the #Rittenhouse case, just after the gun charges were dismissed explaining the judge’s reasoning 1/ 2/ it takes a lot of twists and turns to explain why the judge was right to say Kyle Rittenhouse could lawfully possess an AR-15 when he was technically 17 years old.

but whether you agree with the judge or not hear some thing all of us can agree on:

@CoyoteGrowl @PolitiBunny @SumErgoMonstro If you’re talking about January 6 or missing the essential legal point. It is not inherently illegal for a person to go into the capitol. Therefore you have to show something to indicate that they knew they couldn’t be there 1/ @CoyoteGrowl @PolitiBunny @SumErgoMonstro 2/ for instance I saw a video where around 50 people were piled near a side door that only opened outward. Some people slipped their fingers into the cracks and tricked open the door anyway. Those people with arguably no they weren’t supposed to go in that door…

So it’s the night before #insurrectionmas and the democrats and the media will ritualistically tear their clothes trying to get Americans to care as much about it as they do.

They’ll never understand why we won’t.

Thread 1/ 2/ Part of this is *they* were scared. I don’t deny it. I have long said that the most basic mistake many humans make is assuming everyone thinks like them, even when their experiences are not the same.

So I’ve been playing doom 64 on my PlayStation and I have to say I’ve been really enjoying it. I haven’t finished it yet but a few quick thoughts:

1. It is basically a game close in style to the original doom and doom 2. If you can’t handle graphics that are that primitive… … this isn’t for you.

2. It is not a port of any doom game I know of. I have never seen these levels before, and there’s even a weapon I’ve never seen before. Hilariously when I picked it up the game said something like “what the &$@?! is that?” I laughed

So I watched #encanto either the day it came out or the day after, but it was one of those situations where it was so chaotic in the house that I felt like I really wasn’t taking it in. So I watched it again in calmer circumstances. I think ultimately it’s a good but not… … Great movie.

like remember in frozen where despite the existence of a nominal bad guy, the real conflict was just working out the differences between these two sisters and their love winning out? That was new and different…

The more I listen to this the more disturbed I am. The argument of the parents should have seen this coming is reed thin.

Thread

cc @PolitiBunny @wjjhoge 2/ Let’s go over the evidence. First there is pretty strong evidence that the parents bought the gun in essence for #EthanCrumbley, the shooter. But before you think they are guilty of some kind of gun charge let me remind you of what the Rittenhouse case should’ve taught you:

So she is suggesting that this was a straw purchase. I think that does elevate that above simply “you didn’t lock your gun up well enough.” Cc @PolitiBunny Of course the problem is it isn’t a crime in Michigan for a minor to possess a gun—only to posses it in public and with other exceptions. Which I suppose that’s why they’re not charging them with some kind of straw purchase statute cc @PolitiBunny

A short thread 1/ 2/ I am not quite as certain that Roe is finally gonna go away, but certainly I didn’t hear anything from any of the conservatives suggesting they wanted to uphold it. I heard a few try to ask if there was any way, if they were hearing this question for the first time today…

To the people upset today about the #RittenhouseVerdict let me suggest that you consider a possibility: are you sure you are right?

You base your perception of the case on certain facts. But are you certain those “facts” are actually true?

Thread Lawyers learn to ask themselves constantly “how do I know this? And is my source of information correct?” Try that exercise for every fact you believe to be true.

For instance, you often hear that #KyleRittenhouse brought a gun across state lines.

One more thing with the #RittenhouseTrial

One serious problem is how much the media has been increasingly become part of the story—including part of the trial. Thread As much as possible a reporter should not allow him or her self to become part of the story. Obviously that’s not always possible. If a reporter is doing an expose on human rights conditions in China and he gets captured by Chinese authorities, he’s now part of the story.

Let me take a moment to explain something that a lot of people don’t understand about the #RittenhouseTrail

normally there can only be one trial growing out of the events we saw on the video. I am simplifying a little, but that’s what the double jeopardy clause means

Thread But there is an exception. Typically if the defense asks for a mistrial they are basically waiving the double Jeopardy issue. So if the prosecutor asks for a mistrial, the judge can grant it, but they can’t try the guy again.

.@EdMorrissey, you should always read my feed.

1. The judge knows this case is crap.

Most of this is Opinion, but I think it’s a reasonable one.

2. It is harder for the state to challenge a verdict of acquittal than a granted motion for mistrial

(Cont) 3. If it’s overturned on appeal, the state would get to try #Rittenhouse all over again. That might be their goal all along.

4. So he’s waiting to see if he gets anything but an acquittal. Even a hung jury might not make him happy
