@filsdelucie1 @jacobsoboroff @CapehartJ There are several things Biden is doing differently than Trump and Obama. (1) Biden ended Trump’s brutal MPP policy; (2) Biden stopped expelling children alone (Trump sent 10 year old asylum seeking children back to harm in the countries they fled); (3) Biden’s ICE policies are @filsdelucie1 @jacobsoboroff @CapehartJ already far more reasonable and humane than those of the Obama Administration. That said, Trump/Miller unlawfully subverted the asylum laws of the United States, and Biden in keeping their Title 42 expulsions is continuing to do that at this point IMHO for political reasons.

I was aghast to read this noxious, ignorant “opinion” piece by ⁦@FareedZakaria⁩. The “Remain in Mexico” or #MPP program, HARP and PACR were not “practical” policies of the Trump Administration. They were unlawful, inhumane, human rights violations. washingtonpost.com/opinions/biden… If the author took 5 minutes to do internet research on these “programs” he would discover that people in #MPP were (and are) raped, murdered, preyed on by cartels, subjected to human and sex trafficking, and living in some of the most squalid conditions of any refugee camp.

“[The border] is not the place for children.” Thank you, @MSNBC and @AliciaMenendez for covering this issue @jacobsoboroff with @GuerlineMJozef and @L_Toczylowski at the border. Of course the number of UACs is increasing - if @JoeBiden expels intact families back to harm. A 4 yo child was separated from her blood relative caregiver and kept alone in the Donna Tent facility from Friday to Sunday. @CBP should have released her to her parents in Maryland, instead they put her in foster care (in violation of the statute bc she had parents in the US).

.@TheJusticeDept cited #COVID19 as a reason that Roger Stone shouldn't have to report to begin his sentence, and guidance has been adopted generally. But the same agency is appealing the order to let asylum seeking families with children as young as 6 months old out for the same. "According to guidance from the Department of Justice and the Executive Office of United States Attorneys (EOUSA), U.S. Attorney’s Offices should not object to a defendant’s request to extend a voluntary surrender date for up to 60 days, even at this stage of the pandemic,

“Unaccompanied alien children” (UACs) by law are children who cross our borders (1) w/o lawful immigration status in the US, (2) under 18 YO, and (3) have no parent or legal guardian (regardless of status) in the US available to provide care and take custody. 6 U.S.C. § 279(g)(2) The INS was sued in 1986 for mistreatment of immigration children, and that case was settled in 1997 with the Flores consent decree. That decree has the effect of law by agreement of the plaintiffs and the govt, and covers all immigrant kids in detention. aclu.org/legal-document…

A lot of people care about what is happening to child detainees right now, and are contacting us to ask what they can do. #DoWhatAmySays #CloseTheCamps #DefundHate #StopBorderTorture #AsylumIsTheLaw #ReleaseReunifyRepresentNow I am very grateful, and this is what we need: 1. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE. #CloseTheCamps. The conditions in detention are horrific, but don't advocate for nicer prisons for these kids. Children don't belong in jails, asylum is the law (8 USC 1158), and asylum seeking families deserve safety and legal representation.
