It’s possible to begin to see the contours of a Labour rebellion under a Starmer Govt. The right wing Labour faction around the Leader’s office can see problems ahead so they want to purge critical voices while they have control the party machine. We must wait & prepare. 1/6 Paul Nowak’s call for those with the “broadest shoulders” to pay more to rebuild public services gets right to the heart of what a Labour Government must do and is a great starting point for a left platform. 2/6

Solidarity & #HappyNewYear to all the wonderful new people I’ve got to know in the last twelve months. 1/14 JANUARY: A group of socialists visited Fratting Hall Farm, a former pacifist settlement nr. Colchester, founded during the Second World War in 1943. The painting of the barn which survives to this day was by local artist Roderick Barrett. Today, on holiday in Lisbon, I visited the Museum of Aljube Resistance and Freedom and it got me thinking about Ernie Bevin’s creation of NATO - which Sir Kier Starmer compares to the NHS as a Labour achievement! 1/4 Image At its very outset in 1949 Portugal was a NATO founder. Salazar the Portuguese dictator was feted as an anti-communist ally & rewarded with Royal visits. But who was Salazar? 2/4 Image
