This was always going to be a packed out session (even at 5pm!): how we can use c-peptide measurements to improve the diagnosis of #diabetes
#DUKPC What's c-peptide? It's a molecule we make during the process of producing insulin. So it can be used to look at how much insulin you produce: people with #Type1diabetes have very very low c-peptide levels, while people with #Type2diabetes have higher levels.

Really looking forward to this one: precision medicine. It’s all about tailoring treatments for the individual and moving away from a one size fits all approach. #dukpc .@markmccarthyoxf explains precision medicine could help us answers questions like:
Who is at greatest risk of #diabetes?
Who will respond best to different treatments?
Who will progress quickly or slowly?

We’re now switching gears to technology. The room is packed to the rafters as we hear from people with #diabetes who’ve made use of the tech available to build their own artificial pancreas, otherwise known as DIY looping. #dukpc DIY looping lets your CGM talk to your insulin pump. We think there are around 300 loopers in the UK. And they’re getting great results: more time in target and less hypos. #dukpc

Day 2 is off with a bang! @MaggieShepher13 has been awarded the Arnold Bloom lecture for her outstanding contributions to monogenic #diabetes care. She starts by thanking @DiabetesUK for supporting her right at the start of her career. #dukpc Monogenic diabetes are rare forms caused by a change in a single gene. Maggie realised these genetic types of #diabetes weren’t being diagnosed properly and made it her mission to change that. #dukpc
