#WW2 #History Image Pilot Harold Mathew O'Leary was indeed rescued from the water & stayed in the Navy after the war. He had enlisted in 1939, was Aviation Pilot 1st Class by 1942, & went on to become LCDR. He died in an air crash in 1955, on approach to Hickham AFB. He was 34.

Ok I did some digging about this photo eventually, because there was something strange.
First, it is often attributed to Hornet. Might be from Hornet, but I found material coming from Wasp too. Looking at the evidence though, gotta say that the Wildcat theory doesn't hold..!😱😅
