There are a number of issues to consider: a) your point about needlessly medicalising obesity is relevant if we stick to the >BMI 30 metric. If, however, we consider to be carrying too much fat, that it is influencing your health, then obesity, by definition, is a disease 1/n b) which leads to the follow up question of how much fat is too much? That depends. e.g. We know that South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis) and East Asians (folk that look like me) can't carry too much fat, before increasing our risk of disease, compared to white people 2/n
