asaktyā lokarakṣāyai guneṣvāropya kartutāṃ ।
sarveśvare vā nyasyoktā tṛtīya karmakāryatā ।।
असक्त्या - without desires on any other phala, except bhagavad-preeti, लोकरक्षायै - on the need for protecting the world, कर्तृतां - His all-creating powers, गुणेषु - in tri-guna of satya, rajas & tamas, आरोप्य - be directed, सर्वेश्वरे वा - Unto sarva-vastu-niyanta Narayana,
There lived a brahmana by name Devasharma in the south. He lived an ideal life following his household duties (tretagni upasana, bhagavad aradhana, helping atithi etc..). He also performed many yajna-s with utmost shraddha
Even after leading an ideal life, his mind was at great unease. He was very disturbed & wanted a solution to it
He went to a nearby forest where tapasvi-s were meditating. He did all kind of sushrusha (service) to them & finally one managed to tell his problem to one of them
உடலம் அழிந்திடும் உள்ளுயிர் அழியாது எனைப் போல்
விடுமது பற்று விடாததடைத்த கிரிசைகளே
கடுக உனக்குயிர் காட்டு நினைவு அதனால் உளதாம்
விடு மயல் என்று விசயனைத் தேற்றினன் வித்தகனே
வித்தகன் - acharya sarvabhouma Sri Krishna, உடலம் - sharira, அழிந்திடும் - will be destroyed, ஒன்று - One, உள்ளுயிர் - jivatma inside that sharira, எனைப் போல் - Like Me (Krishna), அழியாது - won't be destroyed, பற்று - attachment, விடுமது - is to be shunned,
eṣā brāhmī sthitiḥ pārtha naināṃ prāpya vimuhyati ।
sthitvā'syāmantakāle'pi brahmanirvāṇamṛcchati ।।
एषा - that propounded mula-karana of, स्थितिः - rooted in karma-anushtana along with buddhi-yoga, ब्राह्मी - will beget Atmasakshatkara, एनां - this, प्राप्य - if attained, न विमुह्यति - there’s no moha about samsara,
yā niśā sarvabhūtānāṃ tasyāṃ jāgarti saṃyamī ।
yasyāṃ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśā paśyato muneḥ ।।
या - that prajna detailed previously, सर्वभूतानां - for all creatures, निशा - night (non-appearing), तस्यां - that (Atma), संयमी - One who has done subjugated indriya-s, जागर्ति - is wide awake (always appearing),
नास्ति बुद्धिरयुक्तस्य न चायुक्तस्य भावना ।
न चाभावयतः शान्तिरशान्तस्य कुतः सुखम् ।।
nāsti buddhirayuktasya na cāyuktasya bhāvanā ।
na cābhāvayataḥ śāntiraśāntasya kutaḥ sukham ।।
अयुक्तस्य - One who fails to meditate on Me, बुद्धि: - Atma-prajna, न अस्ति - won’t remain, अयुक्तस्य - That person, भावना च न - won’t have Atma-cintana,
yatato hyapi kaunteya puruShasya vipashichataH |
indriyANi pramAthIni haranti prasabhaM manaH ||
कौन्तेय - kuntiputra, विपस्चित: - One having knowledge of dehAtma viveka,
यतत: अपि पुरुषस्य - who made great attempts in experiencing Atma, मनः - his mind, प्रमाथीनि - can be shaken by desire, इन्द्रियाणि - indriya-s, प्रसभं - by force, हरन्ति - will bring it out
viṣayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ ।
rasavarjaṃ raso'pyasya paraṃ dṛṣṭvā nivartate ।।
निराहारस्य - Without eating (i.e., unable to be experienced by indriya-s), देहिनः - jiva, विषया - those experiences, विनिवर्तन्ते - ceases, रसवर्जं - except the desire to experience रस:अपि - even that desire, अस्य - for this jiva, परं - the highest joy of Atma-ananda,
yaḥ sarvatrānabhisnehastattatprāpya śubhāśubham ।
nābhinandati na dveṣṭi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā ।।
यः - whom, सर्वत्र - in all matters, अनभिस्नेह - remaining indifferent with no attachment, तत् - that śubha/aśubha, प्राप्य - realise, नाभिनन्दति - without celebration,
न द्वेष् - without dvesha, तस्य - for him, प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता - has sthitaprajña
śrī bhagavānuvāca
prajahāti yadā kāmān sarvān pārtha manogatān ।
ātmanyevātmanā tuṣṭaḥ sthitaprajñastadocyate ।।
