1/4: Timout for a little business: I previously posted about the Canada Infrastructure Bank providing $1 billion in taxpayer funding to BC Ferries to purchase four new Chinese PRC-made ferries. Conservatives vowed to get to the bottom of that decision. Image 2/4: We have now secured an emergency committee meeting today to start getting answers on how the government allowed $1 billion of our money to support jobs and procurement from the China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyards, a PRC state-owned enterprise (SOE).

1/4: Canadian citizenship has value. Bill C-3, which purports to close loopholes in Canada's immigration system, opens entirely new ones - in particular, the ability of children to "inherit" Cdn citizenship from relatives whose only connection to our country was as visitors - 2/4: - not as taxpayers, not builders, not family and community members.

The "post-nationalism" so beloved by many Liberals diminishes the bond between citizen and country. I think that is wrong.

1/4: #PBO today released analysis of the Liberal oil and gas emissions (production) cap.

Contrary to govt claims, this policy will reduce oil and gas production by nearly 5%, cut GDP by $20.5 billion annually, and eliminate 54,400 full-time jobs by 2032.

pbo-dpb.ca/en/publication… 2/4: Canada’s energy sector currently employs nearly one million people (directly and indirectly through suppliers).

In 2022, oil and gas contributed $45 billion in revenue to help pay for schools, hospitals, national defence, policing and other essential services.

🧵1/8: I previously alerted you to foreign funded activist Zain Haq, who came to Canada on a student visa but abandoned any pretense at study & broke the law numerous times (and was sentenced to jail time) by orchestrating massively disruptive roadblocks & blockades in Vancouver. Image 2/8: CBSA has been trying to deport him for months, but Liberal MPs - and Minister Marc Miller - have apparently intervened to protect him. He applied for spousal sponsorship by marrying another activist. Green Party Leader @ElizabethMay wants this lawbreaker to stay in Canada... Image

UPDATE🧵1/8: On Tuesday I posted about Lion Electric, an electric bus manufacturer in St. Jerome, Quebec that received $49.5 million in federal taxpayer subsidies, and later filed for bankruptcy resulting in the complete loss of those public funds. Image 2/8: CEO Marc Bedard walked away wealthy, selling his shares AFTER the influx of cash but BEFORE the bankruptcy. That is "pump and dump" - pump the taxpayer for funding & dump shares at significant profit.

Lion received the funds in Aug 2021 & filed for bankruptcy in Dec 2024.

🧵1/6: Liberals today announced they will attempt to cap emissions from the #oilandgas industry by 35% below 2019 levels by 2030.

At a time when Canadians are experiencing the worst decline in our living standards in 40 years, the worst drop in per person income in the G7 ... Image 2/6: ... the worst economic growth in the OECD & rising unemployment - they have taken aim at Canada's biggest contributor to export earnings & GDP (25% of exports in 2023; $209 billion of GDP) - not to mention almost one million workers in the industry & many spinoff businesses.

1/5 The government has (finally) introduced a revised business rent relief program, available until June 2021. If revenue has declined by 70%+, you may apply for 65% of rent or mortgage interest payments; [more...]

#calgarycentre #cdnpoli #canpoli #smallbusiness 2/5: ... if revenue has fallen by less than 70% there is “a gradually decreasing level of support”. Businesses forced to shut down by mandatory order qualify for up to 90% of rent or mortgage interest payments. Tenants apply directly, without going through their landlord.
