🇰🇷041320 South Korea #COVID19 Updates:

SK's Legislative Election early voting is currently underway. Their ingenuity SHINES.

Aggressive screening AT THE POLLING BOOTHS which means not only are they keeping everyone safe, but they are also using the election to FIND new cases. 🙋🏻‍♀️>11 million have voted thus far (26.7% of the population) for just the early election (this also is an impressive indicator of their social capital).

📹Official gov't PSA vid goes into detail about their aggressive screening and sterilizing procedures.

This is a personal account from a close family member of how South Korea 🇰🇷 deals with those under quarantine for #COVID19.

This is written in their perspective of the process.

#SARS_COV_2 They had been in the US for weeks and returned to Korea after April 1st.

They are and have been asymptomatic.

SK is now screening all travellers from abroad for #COVID19 starting April 1st as the imported cases >> domestic cases.

🇰🇷 032320 0:00 KST South Korea #COVID19 updates

🔴 New cases: 64
🟢 Released from quarantine: 3,166
⚫️ Total cases: 8,961

Death reported at 117 but the graph I have hasn't broken this number by age yet.

I'll calculate the deaths by age based on a total of 111. CFR by Age (Total 111 deaths)

Age Death/Total (% in age group)
30s 1/917 (0.11)
40s 1/1,228 (0.08)
50s 7/1,702 (0.41)
60s 17/1,139 (1.49)
70s 38/599 (6.34)
80s 46/395 (11.6)

Total CFR 1.24% but data skewed significantly towards younger (20s-30s)

How S Korea was able to produce such a massive volume of test kits so fast

1) prepardness
2) elimination of bureaucratic red tape
3) full automation

Not mentioned in the article per se, but likely universal healthcare.

cnn.com/2020/03/12/asi… Tl;dr

Currently SK has tested over 230K people in 118 testing locations.

The large volume of test kits come from 4 different companies.

I.e. Seegene, produces a fully automated 1 step RT PCR (no separate extraction step) assay that uses 3 gene targets (RnRP, E and N).

🚨🇰🇷South Korea Press Conference Summary 030920 #COVID19

"Korea has faced difficulties w #COVID19 as the previous model of isolation/quarantine no longer seemed feasible.

Rather, we believe that we have created a new model fit for a pandemic in a globalized world." /1 Emphasis was placed on transparency, rapidly available and accurate information. Transparency is essential to ensure active participation from citizens.

Rather than erecting and imposing physical and legal barriers, social barriers were created through social distancing. /2
