Hi.

Let’s talk about those 49% of Australians who want to change the date ‘because it’s offensive to Indigenous Australians’. Well, more specifically I guess we should talk about why the ABC chose to use that phrasing for the question in their 2018 survey. They didn’t have ‘because I have find it offensive’ or ‘because it’s a shit date to have a national day on’, but they really should have.

Hi all, @LukeLPearson from IndigenousX here, how are you all (don’t @ me if you're not mob)?

That’s good to hear :) So anyway, I saw that awesome thread from @Flashblak about her removing all the shit resources from her son’s school’s library (read it if you haven’t - then come back here and read this one).

Hi, @Moree_mick education officer, from IndigenousX here. I saw that old tweet of Luke’s doing the rounds again asking people not to use the Creative Spirits website:
The page Luke shared isn’t on the site anymore, but there is still plenty of dubious and dodgy content there, so I thought I’d do a Top 5 of #CreativeSpiritsWTF:

We might not be the ABC, but we thought we’d have a crack at this one all the same…
Q1: Is Clontarf an Indigenous Community Controlled Organisation?

A1: Nope, it is not Indigenous controlled, owned, or run. The Clontarf Foundation was founded in 2000 by Gerard Neesham, a non-Indigenous ex-AFL player and coach.

This #IWD2020 and every day - we ask that you resist tokenism and fight for meaningful change.
Start with justice against a system so successful at eradicating our rights, dignity and personhood.
Find ways to resist - small and large in your every day life. “The issues affecting Indigenous women have more to do with the fact that they are blak in a racist country than the fact that they are women.”

Two way learning research project looking at lived experiences of rheumatic heart disease in Yolŋu community in Yilpara #LowitjaConf2019 ImageImageImageImage Really interesting points about different ways of displaying data around relationships. Researchers couldn’t find any data tools that let them put family trees and relationships in a spiral, only linear western parent, children, siblings etc formats. #LowitjaConf2019

I think a lot of Australians struggle to understand that what they recognise as racism is just the tip of the iceberg... #ElimateRacism Image Eg, we didn’t say ‘White Australians’ there but I’m guessing most of you knew that’s what we meant, and likely didn’t consciously pause to reflect on the absence of the word ‘white’. Whiteness is the norm in Australia. If no race is given, whiteness can usually be safely assumed.

So, more about Harmony Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, both on the 21st March. That is this Thursday (not Saturday as previously tweeted). The reason this is on the 21st March is to commemorate the anniversary of the Sharpesville massacre of 1960, in Sharpesville, South Africa which left 69 people dead, and 180 seriously wounded.

White supremacist slogan loses motion in senate: 31 - 28.

28 actual Australian senators who thought it a good idea to pass a motion saying ‘It’s ok to be white’ and denounce ‘anti-white racism’.

Just another day here in the colony... indigenousx.com.au/pauline-hanson… Hard pressed finding a politician in Australia who’ll even admit racism exists, but when it’s this nonsensical ‘anti-white racism’ suddenly you’ve got 28 of them lining up around the block to decry it...
