#Bitcoin is an urgent US national strategic priority. Here's a thread which explains my reasoning (this is a very short summary of my research as an active-duty officer & US National Defense Fellow).

One of my favorite quotes in military history is by General Ferdinand Foch, who… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image (2) But what if we are just as bad at seeing the bigger picture? What if there are new technologies around us today that we think about in the same vein? What if we are equally as guilty as General Foch was at failing to recognize how new technologies are about disrupt our… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image

Presenting a twitter thread on #SOFTWAR by ChatGPT4

1/6) #SOFTWAR discusses the national strategic security implications of proof-of-work technologies like Bitcoin, but first, it provides some background information on the profession of warfighting and the neologism "softwar."… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… 2/6) In the early 1800s, General Clausewitz examined the nature of war and defined it as a trinity with three distinct characteristics. First, he said that war is comprised of the same "blind natural forces" of "primordial violence" observed in nature. This means that physical… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

You guys are conflating what the public did in support of Zimmerman & following the Zimmerman case, with what Zimmerman's Lead Defense ACTUALLY DID in court to get the US District of California drop all charges. What Dubois ACTUALLY did was... NOT deny that PGP was a munition or that it violated the Arms Export Control Act. Instead, he went on the counteroffensive & questioned the constitutionality of a law that prohibits the public from using a non-lethal munition to secure them against their own government.

I reached out to Zimmerman's Lead Defense Lawyer, Phil Dubois today, to see if he would be willing to discuss how he used the 1st *AND* 2nd amendment to defeat the US Attorney General Office's attempt to claim that PGP should be export controlled under Arms Export Control Act... What is so annoying to me is that ppl don't realize that Zimmerman had OVERWHELMING support *BECAUSE* the govt classified cryptography as arms. Debois did NOT win the PGP case by denying that PGP violated the Arms Export Control Act, he won the case by questioning...

If someone were willing to host me and @dergigi on a debate about my "softwar" framing of #Bitcoin, then I'd happily do it. @dergigi My terms: I wanted it recorded, unedited, and no annoying mediator. Just let us talk like civil human beings.

You cannot be good for #BTC & good for ETH at the same time. Proof-of-Stake is the exact opposite of the intent of RPoW & the work that Back, Finney, and Nakamoto started. It is REGRESSION & it will HARM people. Buterin&Co convinced everyone RPoW is bad & many will be wrecked! Buterin just convinced people to remove the ONE THING that made ETH special or innovative. It is now a DINO, trust-based system where users must HOPE their benefactors won't turn on them b/c they have no option to overturn them.

I have a gut feeling that the learning curve for PoW is shorter f/folks w/military experience b/c they have more experience w/real power & better understand y there's no replacement. I don't have as much experience as Preston but I still think it's what made PoW "click" for me. Physical security/enforcement is physical security/enforcement whether it's done using force on mass or charge on resistor, whether or not the policy you're securing/enforcing is encoded into parchment or python (or in BTC's case C++).

Let's assume this is true: Then the best move US can make is to buy #BTC & hash, if for no other reason than to stay as far ahead & as in control as possible (which will be far LESS control than US had before, since US is ALREADY underestimating BTC's nat'l strategic importance). The thing about disruptive new physical power projection technologies is that they ALWAYS end empires. It doesn't effing matter what Emperor Constantinople thinks about gun powder & cannons, he MUST adopt them else he will lose the empire.

Spoiler alert, he didn't adopt them.

My argument is essentially that #BTC isn't money. It's first & foremost a physical security protocol, the design of which happens to double as a fantastic form of money. So my goal is to just get the Pentagon to start taking it seriously as a strategic security asset, not money. The DoT is simply not qualified to be talking about the technical merit of #BTC , nor its national strategic security implications. By virtue of the fact that they are treating it like money, they demonstrate they don't understand computer science or physical power projection.

1/4 Here's the punchline of my thesis:

The physically constrained state space of cyberspace created by the #BTC mechanism would be the ideal battleground for physically resolving strategic-level disputes b/w nuclear-stalemated peers. 2/4) #Bitcoin therefore represents Mutually Assured Preservation, a new Schelling point following Mutually Assured Destruction -- a way to physically compete in "softwars" b/w & against nuclear superpowers that can deliver strategic victories in a zero-trust & egalitarian way

A govt banning #BTC is systemically the same as a govt banning gunpowder from their country. It will make the govt less credible as a global power b/c in the future, govt authority wont be respected unless it's backed by #BTC. also, creates a security hazard f/their own citizens The core hypothesis of my thesis is that b/c of nuclear stalemate, citizens world wide are on the verge of adopting a new agrarian belief system where they do not respect govt authority unless it is backed by kinetic AND electric power. the latter being #BTC

This is the same line of reasoning @dergigi uses & I disagree with it. boolean logic can be used to turn any state changing mechanism into info. BTC is fundamentally unique compared to other computer programs b/c it applies boolean logic to electric power grid, not to transistors @dergigi By doing that, the "info" and "data" sent by btc is both physically & systemically different than anything else in cyberspace. ppl dont see it because they are abstracting at machine code level and up, not looking at the underlying state mechanism

1/12) Here's the core hypothesis I'm presenting with my thesis about #BTC. Please review & LMK what u think. cc: @adam3us @saylor

PoW is a compsci revolution which fundamentally turns the environment itself into a computer, then connects that computer back into the internet. 2/12) Unlike normal computer programs, PoW protocols like #BTC program the state of the environment *OUTSIDE* of our computers, not just the states inside of them. It effectively treats the global electricity grid as a giant motherboard on a giant computer, then programs it

The innovation behind PoW is precisely the fact that it *doesn't* rely exclusively on software (an abstraction) to keep the ledger systemically secure, but instead incorporates real-world physics (watts) to impose real-world physical constraints on people/computers who run it. Stake is an abstraction. It is an imaginary way to describe the complex emergent behavior of a bunch of general-purpose state machines. The state machines may physically exist, but the way you choose to visualize the complex emergent behavior of those machines is imaginary.

The way you penalize an organization for denial-of-service attacking you on a financial network is to make them pay a very steep electricity bill.

Putin is showing us how #BTC Proof-of-Work works. Putin has to do it this way, since the use of kinetic power is nuclear stalemated. Thus, Putin is using electric power as a "soft" form of kinetic power.

In other words, we're already moving to a future of "soft" war using electricity.

The end state of this strategy is #BTC .

@JeffBooth 1/x) When #BTC 1st launched, it had a 33% inflation rate due to block subsidy, which now has decreased to <2%. This means #BTC block subsidy inflates its monetary supply to financially compensate a physical defense industry which prevents attack by imposing physical cost (watts). @JeffBooth 2/x) PoW is also technically a directed energy weapon (DEW). It countervails control authority over the ledger using energy to impose a physically prohibitive cost on belligerent actors. Also TX fees = taxes paid to fund this DEW.

1/ Laws are rules. All rules are inegalitarian & trust-based. They imply a Ruling & Ruled class; they work as long as ppl are trustworthy enough to follow them. Inegalitarian & trust-based systems are systemically insecure b/c they are vulnerable to systemic abuse & exploitation. 2/ The more rules-based systems succeed, the more tempting it becomes for neighbors to invade, or for people w/the most rules-based control authority to systemically abuse/exploit the rules f/their personal benefit. Inside the system, it's impossible to stop systemic abuse.

@_joerodgers @GhostofStoney @BitcoinMagazine (1/X) Joe... You are a commodity. There is no shortage of Bitcoiners like you, on any platform, to share their anti-govt rants & talk about digital gold. You do not offer viewers anything more than what they can already get from other ppl w/same views... ur in a rate race... @_joerodgers @GhostofStoney @BitcoinMagazine (2/X) Meanwhile, I can walk in here & get 70k followers w/o even trying in 7 months. Why? B/c I provide a different perspective. I don't compete w/anyone on here b/c nobody else has the courage to say what I say to this audience. And so I just absorb up the followers, effortless
