39 days out from the most important election in my lifetime and yesterday, the President of the United States refused to commit to a “peaceful transfer of power.” As Colorado’s chief election official, let me set the record straight. (thread) .@realdonaldtrump will not circumvent the law in Colorado. Under Colorado law, the presidential candidate that receives the most votes WILL receive our electoral votes. Colorado has enforced this law in the past and will enforce it again.

#BREAKING: I’m meeting with @USPS Postmaster General Dejoy and other Secretaries of State right now to discuss the crucial role that USPS is set to play in protecting our democracy during a pandemic. As the conversation unfolds, I will be sharing what I learn here. In opening remarks, Dejoy admitted he should have given Secretaries of State more notice re the postcard sent to all households and PO Boxes. After breaking original promise to keep us in the loop, USPS official says he thinks USPS can commit to giving a heads up in future.

AG Barr tried to gaslight America yesterday. His job is to #defenddemocracy, not work to undermine it. Barr is reading from the same voter suppression playbook as @realDonaldTrump. Every word of his statements on #VoteByMail could undermine confidence in the election. (Thread) Fact: Millions of Americans have voted privately and securely from the safety of their homes for generations. We have been voting by mail as early as the American Revolution. #VoteByMail works for our military men and women and it works for @realDonaldTrump and his family.

I just found out the @USPS is sending this postcard to every household and PO Box in the nation. For states like Colorado where we send ballots to all voters, the information is not just confusing, it’s WRONG. (Thread) Here in Colorado (and also in CA, DC, HI, NJ, NV, OR, UT, WA, & VT) voters don’t request ballots because a ballot is mailed to every registered voter. But the @USPS is confusing our voters by telling them to request a ballot.

Our great AG @pweiser is arguing on behalf of the Dept. of State before the Supreme Court right now. It’s my firm belief that unelected, unaccountable presidential electors shouldn't be allowed to decide the prez election without regard to Colorado voters' choices and state law. This case, if not decided correctly, can throw our elections into chaos. The idea that bribed electors could still cast their ballot would undermine confidence in our elections and voters' participation in 2020.

Listening to the SCOTUS sister-case to Dept. of State v Baca. The Court has had a line of questions about how these cases, if decided in favor of the electors, could throw the county in chaos at the presidential election. #copolitics Washington, in Chiafalo v. WA, argues that once the people have the right to vote directly in the presidential election, that right cannot be taken away by rogue electors. I agree -- we cannot allow electors to disenfranchise Coloradans!
