1/ Last Friday the IPP office published the list of #REIPPPP bids received in bid window 7 (). Without knowing who will be awarded, this already has profound implications for the RE industry and South Africa's energy landscape
A thread 🧵 ipp-renewables.co.za 2/ The vast majority of the bids received are solar PV. Why? It's much quicker, cheaper and simpler to develop PV projects. 9000MW of PV bids received against a procurement target of 1800MW (5x oversubscribed), meaning rock bottom tariffs once again (R0.30-0.40/kWh?)

1/5 Guys, this is insane and a game changer on so many levels. It's sending shockwaves through the South African #renewables industry. @DMRE_ZA just announced only 6 Preferred Bidders, all PV totalling 860MW, all outside Western and Eastern Cape regions. Not a SINGLE wind bid
