Together with @Refugee_RE & many other committed organisations, I discovered a reality which shames France & Europe as a whole. 2/ Despite escaping Libya, where horrific accounts of abuse and slavery are reported, and having made the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean, refugees at the French-Italian border are being met with violent pushbacks and inhumane conditions

Now that the Brexit Party & the Tories have formed an unholy hard-right pact & Farage helping deliver a parliamentary majority for Boris, we are walking into inevitable disaster.

That's why I call on all Green Party candidates in Lab/Con marginals to not put yourself forward I appreciate it's difficult and I don't ask this lightly but with so much at stake, our TOP priority should be to stop the Tories by any means necessary.

We simply cannot afford 5 more years of Tory rule with a Trumpian Brexit.

During my time as Lord Mayor, I kept a hate-box in the corner of my parlour, filled with dozens of abusive and hateful letters that were regularly awaiting me at the Town Hall.

None quite struck me like this one I received not long ago. (1/5) The vile, racist language. The demeaning insults. The threat of harm. The sinister reference to a great woman who was brutally assassinated by a far-right terrorist.

But I'm not sharing this to ask for sympathy or anger. (2/5)

I thought I'd write a little message to all young people. As my tenure as Lord Mayor draws closer to an end, I would have deeply regretted not writing directly to you. ~ thread ~ Because let me tell you something - you are the hope shining through in a city, a country, a world largely and repeatedly failed by most of its influential adults.  

Every school invitation, every selfie or cheery shout out on the street, every heartfelt message on social media.

Regardless of how you cast your ballot in 2016, nobody voted for this shitshow. The gulf between what was promised and what's being delivered widens by the day. With the continued ineptitude of parliament, we, the people, must clear this mess.

Let us #FlushBrexshit 🚽💩 (1/10) There’s no plan for 29th March - just 3 years worth of filth that has clogged the sewers of Parliament and overflown into wider society, inflicting further uncertainty and discord, and threatening to entrench the miserable impacts of austerity for generations to come. Our pandering to xenophobia across Europe, and ducking of the responsibility to challenge dishonest scape-goating far-right narratives and highlight the truths around migration and displacement, leaves us with more and more deaths on our doorstep.

As we begin 2019, I want to give a shout-out to our great NHS - and all the inspiring staff that keep it running during the holidays and throughout the year. Last year the NHS turned 70. We must fight to secure its future for the next 70 years and beyond. (1/)

#NHSLongTermPlan The Tories have wrecked and ravaged our vital health and social care services for 9 years. Their ‘10-year plan’ is a sham. All the numbers add up to is disaster - insufficient funds, inadequate staffing and lack of foresight.
