Please...
Stop. Asking. People. To. "Get Involved." In. Catholic. Parishes!
I have worked full-time in ministry for more than 2 decades. I work with parish leadership teams & coach parish leaders. I speak at parishes. Yet, I don't want to "get involved" in a parish! I don't feel any obligation to serve in a way that just perpetuates the parish ho-hum culture (esp. when leaders won't do what is necessary to improve things). I am a sinner.
You are a sinner.
All sin.
Still, when the grievous sins of one we admire are revealed, it hurts & shocks us...& it should.

Sin hurts. It hurts God, others, & the one who sins.
Sin destroys. It breaks relationships & injures trust.
1/10 This is the bad news - we all have a tendency to sin & thus cause harm. So does everyone. This is the reason there is so much hate, bitterness, anger, division, greed, lust, pride, & brokenness in our world. We cause it. Sin does this. Our sins contribute to a broken world.

Most self-identified Christians in the USA live like those who have no faith
There is little difference in choices, lifestyle, & habits
So if most "Christians" live no differently, why should we be surprised we have little (no?) cultural influence? 2
If we expect the culture to be influenced by the Gospel, by our morals, by Scripture, by our values, etc - then we first need to look in the mirror & ask ourselves if we have allowed those things to transform us first.
If not, then we are starting in the wrong spot.

"If we lack the confidence to preach Jesus Christ without hesitation or excuses to every generation, especially to the young, then the Church is just another purveyor of ethical pieties the world doesn’t need." "The elders of the faith community have the task of passing the truth of the Gospel from age to age, undamaged by compromise or deformation. Yet too often my generation of leaders, in our families & in the Church, has abdicated that responsibility...."
