So our newspaper houses, using the so called findings of a group went about town to report how budget to health and education has been slashed by nearly half while N27bn was allocated for the renovation of the National Assembly. SERAP was quick to write some UN representatives accusing Buhari and NASS of the cut without doing their findings. They didn’t even put into consideration, the fact that NASS has only just received the budget and is yet to present it for deliberation.

Lawan makes case for bi-cameral legislature in Nigeria

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday made a case for Nigeria to maintain a bi-cameral legislature consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives as presently constituted. According to Lawan, the adoption of a bi-cameral legislature was intended to address the country’s diversity and ethnic composition to ensure justice, equity and fairness for all Nigerians irrespective of whether they are from minority or majority ethnic groups.

Senate mulls five years jail term for sexual predators in schools

The Senate on Wednesday revisited the sexual harassment bill which was sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta Central) and passed by the 8th Senate. The Bill which was introduced by the 8th Senate in October 2016 seeks a five-year jail term and five million naira fine for lecturers convicted for sexually harassing male or female students.
