Happy birthday in Brexit land! 😡

I spent around 5 hours on this website yesterday trying to help an elderly relative who wanted to send a parcel with birthday presents.

And I wanted to share the joy with you all, because or highlights the #BrexitDisaster!

We have all heard about issues companies have been facing, importing & exporting has become a nightmare and many businesses had to close down.
But even private people who want to send parcels to relatives have to fill out customs declarations with custom codes for each item now.

Something that's really bothering me has happened over the last few days:
I've seen several comments by apparent indy supporters pointing out where someone was born as part of an argument when disagreeing with someone.
The same accounts who say you're Scottish if you live here./1 But maybe they only mean it when people agree with them.
I've even seen some comments tell these people to go home.
I don't follow all of those accounts or agree with all of them, but seeing this "they're from xyz" & "go home" as part of the argument against them hurts a lot.

Reports from last week that the German vaccine commission will only recommend licensing the #AstraZeneca vaccine for use for under 65 year olds have now been confirmed.
As expected they cite a lack of data that put doubts on the efficiency in that age group. (8% as per last week) The article in the German Spiegel magazine can be found here:

Today is a day many severely disabled people will be screwed further with compliments of the Tory party.
You're unlikely to read about it in the MSM, it's only disabled people after all. 🤷‍♀️
Summary is that as of today, many severely disabled people will lose money.

/1 The longer story behind it is that today new regulations will come into force for disabled people and universal credit.
Although this is a major change with big financial implications, a lot of people will never have heard about the new rules. It's a very sneaky rollout. 👀

This black and white thinking and picking hard sides can be damaging to many. There are also many confused members, on both and no side, who don't know or understand what's happening. People who only want independence for everyone in Scotland...

4 years ago today, I stayed up all night. I didn't believe the exit polls. I knew Brexit would have it. But I wanted to be wrong. I watched every result come in. I wasn't allowed to vote. But I knew it had and would continue to have a major effect on my life. And it got worse. As the day progressed, it became clear that a lot of people thought they were now justified to be openly racist.
That day, I was told to go home, my car was damaged, I had a note through the letterbox, emails asking when I'd move away & my home marked.
Hate ruled that day. 😔💔

Today would be a good day to reach out to an EU citizen you know and ask them how they're doing. I can't even begin to tell you how full of worry, sadness and anger my timeline is today. 💔 I might put down a few very random thoughts today and turn this into a not very coherent thread. It's one of those days where the memories just keep flooding in.
One of those days to realise how much this UK government has taken from me and how much it's broken me.

7½ years ago in January 2013 David Cameron proposed in his so called "Bloomberg speech" the renegotiation of the UKs EU membership terms, due to pressures from Eurosceptics. He added it into the Tory manifesto, to act upon as soon as a Tory majority was to be returned. 5 years ago, after Labour & LibDems also added the promise of an EU referendum to their manifestos, The European Union Referendum Act 2015 was voted through parliament. MPs voted 544 to 53 in favour of the principle of holding a referendum, only the SNP opposed. It passed 316:53.

And so it is Christmas.
Some thoughts about the lessons history teaches, the othering of people and my nana's life. With a side order of xenophobia and a bitter future ahead for a UK, which doesn't learn from the past. From this German new Scot. This will be the 2nd Christmas after my nana's death. She liked Christmas, I don't, never have. I am very much not religious, but I only realised how much her beliefs mattered to my nana in the last few years and then the last week of her life. And why Christmas mattered to her.

When dropping the parcel off, we got a confirmation slip, which also has a tracking number on it. Checked the tracking no and it showed as dropped off. 2/

I call Scotland my home. But like so many new Scots, I wasn't actually born here. That difference doesn't really matter though. When I first mentioned my plans to move to Scotland, I was overwhelmed by the friendly welcome. And I was sent a Scottish citizenship test. /2

Good morning. Today seems like a good day to tell you about my conversation with a brexiter, that I had a few weeks ago.
That day I was told to my face that #brexit means they can finally switch out all those EU migrants with better foreigners. /1 This person knew that I am one of "all those EU migrants". And while I've been told way too many times to count that I should "go home" or "go back where you came from", being told that I can and indeed will be "switched out" for something better was a new one to me. /2
