So, Heavy Gear, my fave #scifi #TTRPG of all time came up again today, and I remembered something about it that will vibe with the #Archaeology/TTRPG crossover mutuals I have, which is at least @danielhkwan and @FabricAlchemist. HG was a game that actually had archaeology...1/? 2/?... as an organic part of its world building. Terranova, the main world things happened on? Earth's oldest colony. Over a 1000 earth years of history. Religions, wars, failed settlements, an invasion by Earth forces... And the creators actually recognized that this would...

A lot of the #Nerf stuff I see online comes hand in hand with fancy looking tactical gear. But I don't have that kind of budget. I do have a bin full of near indestructible Chinese PLA surplus webbing and pouches (don't question it), and hey! They fit Nerf blaster clips! Combine with an old pistol belt and some Afghanistan vintage dump pouches from my kit bin, and I'm set!

We're having another Nerf War at my buddy's place against his teenage kids, and this time I'm stepping it up and bringing a clip fed blaster. Good times!

Well fuck. My copy of Into the Giantlands, ordered before the TSR reveal/meltdown, has arrived. Buckle up for a hell of a review. JFC. Two things right away.

1.) While the size of the boxed set is disappointing from an old TSR standard, it's small form factor makes my Classic Traveller brain happy.

2.) This thing vibes like the story behind and results of the TOG in WWII. And that's not a good thing. The TOG tank, it's as horri...

This is the "fake gamer girl" argument but wordier and designed to make it seem like new people entering a subculture will destroy it.

And no, subcultures aren't "dead". They've just evolved, you know, like any other cultural aspect. socialsci.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/So… You see, the argument laid out by the OP's link is predicated on the position that people will join a subcultural specifically to destroy it. But that specifically ignores two things. That subcultures are not static, and that the entrance od saboteurs is exceedingly rare.

There's a lot to unpack here. #DnD #TTRPG A post by a regressive and reactionary D&D fan, saying: &quo Okay... 1/?

First and foremost, no, not everyone has been welcome in D&D. Women, minorities, the disabled, and the LGBTQ+ communities have all been collectively fucked off by one of or both the game in text and depiction or by the community since day one. Perfect recent example?

Let's dig into this. #TTRPG #DnD Open Legend by @OpenLegendRPG uses a hybrid level/point buy/XP spend system and a boon/bane mechanic. Someone converted all the non-IP D&D monsters; and pound for pound, it out performs 5e in every metric around player agency and character development. It also plays faster.

Just finished the last episode of the new season of Restaurant to Another World and I will say, without hesitation, it is doing some of the most amazing amd beautiful #WorldBuilding I've ever seen, and it's all completely secondary to the main location and theme. #TTRPG I am not kidding either. In 2 seasons, 12 episodes each, primarily focused on the the restaurant and its clients' immediate environs/backgrounds, it has, through imagery and mild exposition, created a detailed, politically complex fantasy world complete with deep history.

Those are the opposite, in every way, of what you want in a military. Especially that last one. That's a call for race war, for genocide, against Asians. Holy fuck. Being sexist and homophobic only shrinks your recruiting pool. The former opens the door to SA and domestic abuse. The latter leaves you open to espionage because enemy intelligence will target gay members. It's a while thing we already experienced.

And the last point? Fuck.

The Khosptr was a cleric of the Chaos Deity Ahtal in life, brought back in unlife by the theft of its holy icons. A formidable opponent, it is a deadly melee warrior and casts chaos magic. For those who know the ritual, they may control it as long as they have its icons. Khosptr can be identified by sect, with common mutations shared among them. They are generally passive unless commanded under the control of the holder of their holy icons to be aggressive, or unless they encounter people/obstacles between them and their icons.

I think there's merit to the idea here, but it's bordering or tortured logic to extend the term "generational wealth" to include working class level family assistance like some groceries or help getting a car fixed. Often because those, especially outside the actual...1/2 2/2...middle class are more like micro loans with loose terms or things paid back in labour and assistance than actual generational wealth from property equity, investments, or inheritance. They're absolutely a leg up when you need it, but it's a reach for the term.

So, I want to throw this out there now to all my followers, friends, and passers by who are living in the #DnD ecosystem as part of or as their entire income stream. Please, be ready to adapt and overcome over the next few years and especially in 2024 when #5eEvolved releases. Things are likely to change. You may need to buy digital access to materials again. You may need to migrate accounts, and for professional DMs, that means you may need to shepherd your customers through migrations as well. The chance of disruption is high, and being ready is key.

This means my 2024 50th anniversary mega-release prediction was correct, and that #DnD has selected the "5.5" option, choosing to do a smooth update of 5e rather than a leap to 6e. A practical choice given how @Wizards_DnD has been operating for the last few releases. For the D&D community, this is going to be a huge explosion. Just off the top of my head, character creation is going to be a lot more flexible. We're likely to see tweaks and minor revisions all over the place. It will also be a year of non-stop D&D events and coverage.

When I was in France for the 95th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge, I drank a bottle of red wine a night. I never understood European wine culture in popular media until I had French wine in France. I fell in love with Bordeaux red, Northern France cuisine, and never looked back. If you ever find yourself in Europe, Northern France and Belgium are must go locations. The food, the wine, the beer, it was all good. So good!

This is subtle but quiet news and should be unpacked and prepared for by the larger #TTRPG industry outside of #DnD, and by the D&D adjacent industries who are operating in the digital realm. Why? Because this is likely to be highly disruptive. 1/? 2/? Now, first and foremost, I have no inside eye on D&D or Wizards. So this is educated speculation based on observation of the larger hobby.

My suspicion is that Wizards are going to move forward with a VTT+ system for D&D. And by "+", I mean that they are likely going to...

YES. More chill cooking anime! This series was great in season one, and I'm pumped for season 2!

crunchyroll.com/en-gb/anime-ne… For reference, the show is *super wholesome*. The fantasy world is only seen in snippets but is shockingly well crafted, the romance bits are alternately legitimately hilarious or sweet, and the dragons are priceless.

You can replicate this display of overpriced extravagance for about $50. Food grade gold leaf is available on Amazon, and you can get good steak from a butcher. So, in actuality, you'd be having a better meal. Do a nice marinate on the steak, use the leftover marinate and steak juice to caramelize onions and mushrooms, thin layer of homemade bbq sauce on it with seasonings, then lock in the juices with the gold leaf immediately after...

I noticed something interesting in AD&D and 2e AD&D campaign settings. There's a common metaplot in a lot of them, and that's the "twilight of the gods" or "the rise of mortals". I'm not kidding either. #DnD

Dark Sun: the gods are dead, people struggle against the Dragon Kings. Birthright: the old gods are dead, the new ones are hands off.

Dragonlance: the gods literally don't care, one evil one makes everyone's lives miserable for no reason.

Forgotten Realms: the gods get kicked out of the heavens, mortals become gods, religion makes no sense.

So. The wee bairn is a slow eater. Not picky, just slow. But she's too slow and gets upset when she doesn't have time left to do fun things because dinner lasted an hour. The solution? Every weekend we have "Slowpoke Breakfast" now. Basically, she eats at close to "normal" speed during the week, then it's Slowpoke Breakfast on the weekend, where she can eat as slow as she wants. She is hilariously and amazingly excited about it and talks about it all week. It's a whole little event now. Lasts 2-3hrs.

The only job and school advice I'm comfortable giving to people these days is this:

Go to your local community college and do all their Microsoft Office courses. They're invaluable. Whether you're going to work or post-secondary education, these skills will be huge helps. Likewise, if you're planning to start a business? Hit up their business planning and bookkeeping courses. Check out their leadership and management courses too. These little courses will help your business. You'll avoid so many bumps and bruises.

This challenge comes from our western cultural background radiation. Cults can be normalized in game with some #WorldBuilding effort; Runequest is notable for this. Pirates are a bit more challenging, but again, a world building thing. Going into the drives of piracy. #DnD #TTRPG The problem is that stat blocks + cultural assumptions + wargaming roots means that these things default to being the fantasy equivalent of pop-up targets if there's no world building effort to establish something different. Because of that isn't done, people will default back.

This tracks with the instructions we got when writing for Candlekeep.

TBH, it's a scenario that Wizards has painted themselves into a corner with. Over 40+ plus years, lots of lore was generated, but it was seldom used/exploited to drive adventure. As a result, lore in #DnD... ...went from being a springboard to adventure and exploration to being perceived as an albatross around the necks of DMs and creators alike. I can't count the number of times I've heard people take an adversarial stance to lore in FR, claiming "everything had history!" 2/?
