Good thread by @BrigidLaffan on Phil Hogan situation. Will just add my own two cents worth by noting that formally since the Lisbon Treaty entered into force in 2009, Member States do not even nominate Commissioners. Rather, the Council of the EU (here=heads of State/Govt)...1/
...by common accord with the Commission President-elect (which was Ursula Von der Leyen)adopts the list of other persons whom it proposes as Commission members- altho these are selected on the basis of Member State 'suggestions'. 2/

(Who would have thought that a UK PM would ever prorogue #parliamentt and threaten the #ruleoflaw This means that by definition there is no precise precedent to guide us. 2/
