What is the Internet of Animals?

@animaltracking and I see it as an emerging convergence of linked #BigData + #LiveData + Automated #Analytics and #AI.

A powerful tool for science and conservation!

We describe the #IoA in our new paper @Trends_Ecol_Evo

This was fun to come up with but probably not comprehensive, what did we miss? What if we expanded to 100?

The new Solaris camera traps from @alexbraczkowski seemed too good to be true, $100, field worthy, solar powered etc... I matched them up vs. Reconyx and found... they were pretty good. 🧵 ImageImage I put one pair in my yard and one in the woods, the angles are never perfectly the same so you can't focus too much on exactly which cam missed what, but overall the mammals detected were pretty similar between the two cams. public.tableau.com/app/profile/ro…

Today we published a paper @AnimalConserv finding that pet cats have an ecological impact 4-10X that of a wild predator, although mostly within 100m of their house. (1/n)
