My heart was heavy as I set foot in Jhirka Valley today. As an advocate, I had come to conduct a field inspection and collect the harrowing stories of the victims. This was no ordinary village - it was the same place where Junaid and Nasir, two innocent Muslim boys,
1/6 had been mercilessly beaten to death not too long ago. The mere mention of their names sent shivers down my spine.

Mewat, in Haryana, is no stranger to such horrific incidents, and I knew that I was in for a heart-wrenching experience.

1/10. Even as we express solidarity with the Black Americans, lets remember Mohsin Sheikh, the young techie from Pune who was lynched on this day 6 years ago by right wing goons. This was the first lynching after BJP came to power.

#GeorgeFloyd's murder exposes the dark underbelly of US that has abrogated on itself the right to export democracy abroad -Iraq,Afghanistan,etc. This self proclaimed harbinger of world peace perpetuates systemic injustice against blacks at home.
#BlackLivesMatter 2/7, It shows little has changed in US over decades. But we in India, the self-proclaimed world's largest democracy, shouldn't be surprised. We have a Constitution that promises equality to all irrespective of caste & religion, but our system denies it everyday.

1/12. The refusal of the govt to bring PM Cares Fund under CAG audit again shows that Modi govt has inverted the basic contract of State-Citizen relationship on which liberal democracies function.
Before we come there, lets see what is the basic premise of this contract. 2/12. A liberal democracy rests on protecting the freedoms & privacy of the individual. At the same time, the governments that are elected by the people are to be accountable to the people. The RTI deepened this principle and in the turn deepened the roots of democracy in India.

उत्तर प्रदेश में 1997 के वक्त भाजपा के कल्याण सिंह की सरकार थी, उस दौरान प्रदेश के विधानसभा में जो कुछ हुआ वह लोकतंत्र को हमेशा शर्मसार करेगी। वैसे मुल्क में लोकतंत्र रोजाना ही शर्मसार होता है, खरीद फरोख्त आज भी अपने चरम पर है।
