.@NCJW is a proud United Nations NGO. We have long admired UN Women for their moral voice when women around the world are harmed. @UN_Women’s belated and tepid response to Hamas' appalling acts in Israel on October 7th, including using rape as a weapon of war, is unacceptable. 🧵 The delayed issuance of a statement that fails to explicitly address the severity of the terrorist attack, including the brutal murder of over 1200 people in Israel, torture, and rape of women, as well as the targeting of civilians and families, is equally reprehensible.

World Zionist Congress votes are in! It was a right wing majority in the Congress and the votes still strongly went for democracy and inclusion with a big ‘ol NO to the judicial overhaul plan and to the discrimination of LGBTQ folks and women. Here’s the voting breakdown: 🧵 ✅ 368 were in favor and 262 were against urging the Israeli government to refrain from implementing its judicial overhaul.

✅ 354 were in favor and 271 were against deepening inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ within Zionist activity in the State of Israel and in the Diaspora 🌈 🌈 🌈

A niche 🧵 for those who care about Jewish holidays and musicals. Here are my recommendations of which Broadway musicals to listen to that reflect the themes of the upcoming Jewish holidays. Comment with your recs! 🎶🎶 Up first, Rosh Hashanah, Sept 25-26. My pick: Rent
525,600 minutes… How do you measure, measure a year?
This musical is all about taking stock of who you are, what you want, & what injustices there are in your community to address. Perfect to listen to while baking apple cake.

🧵 Welcoming the stranger — the immigrant, the refugee, the asylum-seeker — is one of Judaism's most core values. The Torah commands us no fewer than 36 times to care for those whose homeland, language, social network, and resources may be elsewhere. We hear this more than any other commandment in our most sacred of texts, perhaps because it’s all too tempting, when things are going well for us, to forget. So the Torah has to remind us, again and again, until we remember.

Amy Coney Barrett is about to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice. There was nothing about this process that was normal. We can’t act like it was. THREAD

#WeDissent #RuthsRevolution #CourtsMatter #NotNormal It is not normal to announce support for a Supreme Court justice nominee before anyone has been named.

The World Zionist Congress, which has the power to allocate a billion dollars in money annually in Israel, has been ablaze with major issues around voice & power this week. Here’s a thread summing up the drama & implications between the progressive and right wing voting blocks. TL;DR: Right wing groups banded together and have the majority numbers so they decided to propose to change the rules and make it so that progressive groups can’t vote on certain leadership positions or influence particular money. #wzc2020

I’m a fan of @Daroff, too. But quoting only men and referring to William as the King of Twitter and Malcolm as King of the Jews, without even acknowledging gender as one of the primary issues for @Conf_of_Pres to navigate is not okay. @OmriNahmias m.jpost.com/Diaspora/Who-i… Just as a reminder, when Michael Steinhardt sexually harassed me he continuously referred to himself as the King of Israel. Kings are not the model of leadership we should be aspiring towards. They are often known for abusing power and abusing women.

On my way to my 1st ever @Conf_of_Pres meeting, which is focused on Anti-Semitism. COP brings together leaders of major Jewish orgs as a way to leverage impact in the US & Israel. What messages do you want me to share w/ this group? What issues do you wish we were addressing? 11/13 morning speakers are men, including all “experts”. I know plenty of experts on antisemitism who are women and will plan to share that with COP.
