By police logic, killing Black people in our sleep is lawful, but protesting that killing isn't. There is no reforming a police force that is silent when it comes to their extrajudicial killings while violent towards those who dare dissent. #BlackLivesMatter This isn't talked about enough and nothing will change until it is.

Politics shouldn't be treated as team sport, but voters who insist on doing so should try viewing it as a matter of the people's interests vs corporate interests. Just one look at how Congress votes vs how they buy stocks proves how self-interest can supersede political ideology. Several of these members play in the markets over which they have some direct legislative responsibility"

THREAD: The line between inept government and bought government is often blurred, and that's intentional. Those doing the buying have convinced people that policies for the greater good are "pie in the sky," but that their looting of the commonwealth isn't. A reversal is overdue. The fact that the economic costs of a pandemic and mass deaths have taken precedence over the human costs doesn't expose a broken system, it exposes how the system is designed. Treating these failures as incompetence rather than intentional only serves to absolve the profiteers.

From medicare-for-all to wealth inequality, this pandemic vindicated many of Bernie's policy positions. For Biden to have a chance in November, he will have to acknowledge through his platform that a return to normal simply isn't enough for many who suffered under the status quo. Biden needs to look at his enthusiasm numbers and adapt accordingly. Betting solely on people's enthusiasm to vote against Trump won't be enough. He will need both.

I don't think the coronavirus could ask for a better ally than for-profit health insurance companies. And anyone who's ever defended that industry should be ashamed. Don't give any politician's response to this pandemic praise if it doesn't call out the moneyed interests that exacerbated the pandemic in the first place. Chances are that their silence on this has been bought through lobbying or campaign contributions.

For the new followers, here's an ongoing list of threads I've put together on various topics ranging from private prisons to for-profit healthcare and more. I hope you find the info useful. xo.

- A thread on America's current state as told through graphs:
- A thread on the lesser-known (but equally important) aspects and consequences of climate change:

THREAD: Whether by ineptitude or design, America's social safety net has always been incredibly porous, and Covid19 has laid the evidence bare. Those falling through the cracks were ignored before, but when too much of the bottom falls out, the entire structure begins to crumble. It is impossible to consider healthcare a right if you support a healthcare system that prioritizes profits over people. A system that was already resulting in 1 out of 3 GoFundMes being for medical debt was never going to stop a pandemic, it was only ever going to make it worse.

Just a thread of thoughts/observations on the state of this primary:

Covering electability and policy as wholly unconnected issues convinces ppl that politicians who make them feel good are the same as those who can actually help them. Voters get played when the media does this. It's wild that Warren was endlessly scrutinized over how to pay for medicare-for-all but was then ignored once she provided a detailed answer. Meanwhile, other candidates were never asked what would happen to the millions of people left behind under their more "moderate" plans...

REMINDER: The head of HHS was the same pharma exec who helped make US insulin 100x more expensive than other countries. Just something to keep in mind when they make the coronavirus vaccine "affordable" instead of free and make this crisis even worse. The war on the poor is real.

This primary has been going on for over a year. There's been multiple debates on multiple news networks analyzed by multiple pundits. And yet the average voter still couldn't tell you where these candidates differ on foreign policy, lgbtq rights, prison reform, or climate change. It's the last year of Trump's first term, and I've yet to see a single reporter ask him or any other republican what their healthcare plan is in detail.

The President of the United States just banned Africa's most populous nation then rewarded a well-known racist with the highest civilian honor.

The Republican party is a white nationalist party. And the fact that mainstream media refuses to acknowledge this makes them complicit. The fact that Trump's typos get more media coverage than the amount of civilians he's killing makes mainstream media complicit.

THREAD: Media concern about parties straying from the center seems to be strictly reserved for Democrats. In fact, Googling "Are Republicans moving too far right?" results almost exclusively in articles about Dems moving too far left... Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

Hate crimes rose in every major city in lockstep with Trump's rhetoric?

America is the only developed country where preschoolers have to engage in child labor to keep their classmate from dying. These kids are kindhearted beyond words, but any healthcare system that would put them in that position to begin with is clearly immoral.

People who think that AOC should leave the Democratic party but that Dan Lipinski and Henry Cuellar shouldn't are truly telling on themselves. If you're fine with Democrats fighting to overturn Roe v Wade and accepting private prison money, but angry with those refusing to support them, you might have more in common with Republicans than you're willing to admit.

"How are we going to pay for healthcare?" VS "How are we going to pay for war?" America spending more on the military than the rest of the G7 combined then being asked why it's the only G7 country without universal healthcare:

Imagine ending up in prison because of Bloomberg's racist policy then being forced to help him run for president. Prison labor is essentially slave labor, and anyone who would use it to gain power is not on your side. But the fact that a billionaire would resort to using it in the name of "democracy," despite clearly having the money to avoid doing so, should disgust everyone even more.

It's no coincidence that the same candidates either trying to prevent or limit free college are also the ones accepting the most money from banks making a killing with student loan debt.

Believing otherwise is much more naive than wanting debt-free higher education for the poor. It's no coincidence that politicians who oppose Medicare for all also accept the most money from big pharma.

Believing otherwise is much more naive than believing that people shouldn't lose everything they own whenever they lose their health.

@llerer If Obama ran on "be rooted in reality" instead of "When we've faced down impossible odds, when we've been told we're not ready or that we shouldn't try, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can" he would've lost. @llerer Nothing summarizes Republicans' reaction to Obama's good will and compromises better than this. These three reported incidents are from *just* the last weekend.

Mainstream media has to stop treating these as isolated incidents, and start connecting the dots; 'Make America Great Again' means 'Make America White Again' Notice how Trump supporter outrage over illegal immigration always conveniently leaves out the 2 biggest sources of US visa overstays: Canada and Europe.

That's because 'Make America Great Again' means 'Make America White Again'
