Thread on CLP meetings all coming to bitter conclusions this evening:

It’s a really, really simple situation. Jewish Labour members have had enough of hostile meetings, gaslighting motions, faux solidarity and victimisation huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/labour-b… ...We asked the EHRC to investigate the Labour Party for a reason. Hundreds and thousands of instances of bullying, harassment and intimidation. We asked them to do it because the Labour Party leadership wouldn’t...

Thread: After all that bluster and high rhetoric, Team Corbyn are saying that they were party to a deal to politically manipulate the disciplinary process, whilst LOTO claim there wasn’t a deal. Yet they have used the content of the EHRC report to argue their cause? Ridiculous... ...For over a week, members of Labour’s NEC and outriders have claimed that political manipulation of the disciplinary process was the fault of the Leadership. Yet here they admit that they were actively commissioning political interference...

Thread: One of the hallmarks of Labour Party antisemitism is the chorus and echo chamber that follows each event.
Far from acknowledging how problematic anti-Jewish ideas are, the knee jerk reaction by some to ‘defend one of their own’ is too irresistible. In Party management terms, that reaction has seen fractionally aligned NEC and NCC members offer slaps on the wrists at best, and no action at worst, for a behaviour that has over the last 5 years embedded itself so deep it’s become cultural...

I have been passed a copy of the "report". It contains incredibly sensitive personal information relating to complaints, victims and major safeguarding issues. If the central allegation of the document is factionalism, its leaking is a very serious event... ...the document is now making its way around numerous Party whatsapp groups, on all sides of the political spectrum. This is a very dangerous event, and will have some major repercussions...

Thread: The reason @jewishlabour called in the @EHRC to investigate unlawful discriminatory acts by @UKLabour against Jews was the desire to get an independent investigation, following years of LOTO & the NEC simply ignoring us, undermining us and allowing behavior to continue /1 Its worth remembering that the reason we are now here are the countless occasions we asked LOTO and the Party to act: Setting an example to the membership about what was acceptable. Not allowing openly Stalinist organisations to infiltrate the Party /2

Thread: Len McCluskey hasn’t offered “continued dialogue” with @JewishLabour and certainly hasn’t supported us. When it was clear his mind was closed and agenda fixed, we figured there was little point trying to explain anti-Jewish racism to a “lifelong anti-racist” #Marr Almost two years ago, in early 2018 I along with a small group of people went to meet Len at @unitetheunion’s offices in Holborn. The meeting lasted over 2 hours and was painful as it was embarrassing. It followed a spat over his behaviour at 2017 Party Conference

This is a lie

There are at least 130 outstanding antisemitism cases, some dating back years, that still haven’t been dealt with. The Party haven’t bothered to investigate the cases properly or make decisions. This is the tip of the iceberg /1

#ITVLeadersDebate #LeadersDebate Corbyn and Labour’s total failure to deal with antisemites has seen it be investigated by the EHRC for institutional anti-Jewish racism.

They don’t launch major investigations without cause, and the investigation continues through the election /2

THREAD: A little anecdote about antisemitism, integrity and the Labour Party.

Just over a year ago, about half an hour after news broke about Corbyn’s defence of “that” mural, we were due for a @JewishLabour stakeholder ‘check in’, at Norman Shaw South... Back in the day, these were pretty normal events. I’d only just started doing them following well documented changes to JLM’s leadership. I normally stayed away from LOTO and concentrated on HQ stuff.

Then, whilst difficult, there was always a rationale for engagement...

THREAD: The Gen Sec’s email today to Tom Watson is a long long list of hostages to fortune.

This kind of behaviour is now mainstream. Those standing up to inaction and the culture of antisemitism within the Party are made out to be the problematic ones /1 It’s surprising to see them send a letter like this to the entire PLP, given the refusal to formally reply to JLMs letters, justified by saying they don’t wish these issues to be played out in the national media.

This intransigence is deeply unhelpful /2

Thread: The latest from the Party's spokesperson on Derek Hatton's readmission is yet another example of an institutionally unfit organisation incapable of being honest about dealing with its demons /1 jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/derek-hatton-s… Hatton was expelled by the Labour Party 32 years ago. This is the highest sanction that can be metered down by the disciplinary process. Unlike a suspension, the unique thing about an expulsion is the caveat that re-entry *MUST be via an NEC decision /2

THREAD... I’m so disappointed by this preemptive response to this evening’s PLP motion on antisemitism. The motion asks the same questions @JewishLabour have been asking for far too long... labourlist.org/2019/02/elimin… ...I know this because after a JLM delegation met for three hours with the new Gen Sec after her appointment, I wrote a letter on behalf of our members to set out 19 suggestions that we felt might make an impact. Here is where we are at almost a year later:

Shadow Foreign Secretary @EmilyThornberry in conversation with @jonlansman at #Limmud

Warm applause. So much for “Trump supporting fanatics”. (That said, there are just one or two around mind...) The room is ram-packed. Only seats left on the floor. Busier than both @LimmudGala & @notthegala combined.

The subtext of this EDM is beyond comprehension. I cannot understand why any MP would put their name to something so perniciously offensive and based on a premise so false... The suggestion of the EDM isn’t just that Holocaust Memorial Day is exclusively concerned with Jews, but that the very word ‘Holocaust’ is somehow exclusive of any other group of people who were exterminated by Nazis...

Last week, after @UKLabour failed to throw out its new code of practice on antisemitism, rumours swelled that #JC9 candidate @PeterWillsman had said some very intemperate things about those who had raised genuine concerns. There is now audio... thejc.com/news/uk-news/b… Such quotes in the originally reported included “What the rabbis have said about antisemitism in the Labour Party is simply false”... “In 50 years I have never seen any antisemitism in the Labour Party”...

OK, for absolute clarity, @JewishLabour have run @UKLabour’s Antisemitism training for two years. Often to hostile audiences, if at all. Too many times our offer of free training has been declined, or redefined as an opportunity to “debate” antisemitism. No way... ...We’re still waiting to hear back from the new General Secretary to meet and discuss our longstanding concerns, weeks after we were told we’d get an invite given #antisemitism was to be her #1 priority, and a week after we wrote to chase it...
