Just finished clinic and realised that it is exactly 2 years since the first guidance from @PublicHealthEng re. social distancing for high-risk groups for COVID-19. šŸ§µon #COVID19 risk (1/5) gov.uk/government/pubā€¦ On 22 March 2020, @PublicHealthEng issued further guidance re. 1.5 million individuals at particularly high-risk from COVID-19. At this same clinic on 18 March 2020, a person with heart failure asked me why his personal risk from COVID-19 was much worse than baseline risk. (2/5)

Lots of commentary re. slowness of #LongCovid trials and research from patients, public, researchers and clinicians. I feel the frustration: a few thoughts as a clinician scientist with affected family members, friends and colleagues. (1/9) šŸ§µ In the first year of the pandemic, we were slow to recognise, research and act, as many said (including us). Many reasons including: being overwhelmed by first wave, traditional focus on acute not chronic etc. theguardian.com/commentisfree/ā€¦ bmjopenrespres.bmj.com/content/8/1/e0ā€¦ (2/9)

Clinic today done over the phone as has largely been the case since March. We have learned so much about what we can do but also about the limitations of telemedicine. Also why we need coordination of public health. THREAD COVID-19 has taught us how joined up health, healthcare and public health need to be. I mainly deal with patients with heart problems like heart failure. Like many people with chronic diseases, they face a dual impact from the pandemic.
