Natgas is supplying almost 60% of the power right now and electricity prices are very high in most of the state. ERCOT expects to have almost 89,000 MW capacity later this morning. The tightest margin is expected to come this am around 8 & then this evening as the sun sets. Wind is currently performing at 40% capacity and is expected to drop to as low as 11% while solar performs its best.

This presser is now underway.

"The grid is ready and reliable -- we expect to have enough generation to meet demand throughout this winter cold snap," @PUCTX Chair Peter Lake says. REPs and generators have put off scheduled maintenance to be available this week.

Lake adds that localized outages caused by downed power lines/falling tree branches are not related to the status of the power grid.

State officials will convene at 10 to discuss the grid and this week's cold front.

Currently, conditions are fine and ERCOT expects Friday morning to have the lowest temps of this week. Current demand is 54k MW with a projected available capacity later of up to 87k MW. ImageImage ERCOT projected a peak winter 2022-23 demand of 67,298 MW w/ a 87,300 MW supply expected available to meet it.

There's been a lot of criticism of the Biden admin for the Dept. of @ENERGY's order responding to @ERCOT_ISO's request to A) allow generating units to operate at maximum capacity & B) temporarily waive emissions caps.

But the DOE approved ERCOT's request.
energy.gov/sites/prod/fil… There are generation caps past a certain total of emissions produced. Once triggered, a generator must cease operations for a given period of time.

Obviously, that is not conducive to an emergency situation like last week's -- hence the @ERCOT_ISO request.
