The recent killings with religious undertones in Plateau State are unacceptable provocations that must be condemned by all Nigerians. As the affected communities grapple with their significant losses and work towards healing, both the Plateau State and the Federal government must expedite all necessary actions to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

I have watched with concern the recent development in Oyo and Ondo States in which quit notices were given to Fulani herders, with the subsequent burning of the property of Fulani herdsmen in some parts of Oyo State. These happenings have increased the tension and unduly raised the temperature in the country.

After posting a tweet on the kidnap of the 12 policemen yesterday, the thought of the damning implication that sad incident has for our country continues to disturb me.

Moreover, last night some of my colleagues in the 8th Senate came to visit and, along the line, the same issue came up for discussion.

I appeal to the government to put an end to this shooting of protesters by security agents. We need to exercise great patience, restraint and compassion in handling the demands of these youth. We must do all that is necessary to protect and engage with them on all issues. Please let the shooting stop and let fruitful dialogue commence.

The isolated polls as we have in Ondo State next Saturday, and the last one in Edo State, give us the opportunity to perfect the electoral system. The significance of the passage of the Police Trust Fund Bill cannot be overstated in view of the important project of reforming the Nigerian Police Force. This is because, adequate financing has been identified by experts as one of the key limitations of the Nigerian Police.

The 8th @NASSNigeria's Bill to repeal and re-enact the Companies and Allied Matters Act (#CAMA) has been transmitted to @NGRPresident @MBuhari for his assent. This Bill is a major milestone that will signify Nigeria’s readiness for a modern business environment. The suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. I just briefed Pressmen at Legacy House about the sad development in my home state, Kwara State, and the role of the security agencies in giving cover to people who are unleashing violence on our people. The APC in Kwara State are surprised and cannot understand how and why the people continue to give massive and overwhelming support to the PDP across the state.

We should look at the Zamfara killings as a major threat to our democracy — particularly as we move towards the general elections in the next 50 days. We should not allow criminal elements to take over parts of our country. The situation in Zamfara State is an example of why we need to overhaul our security architecture in order to bring it to a state where it can effectively tackle emerging threats and challenges.

I call on @NGRPresident @MBuhari to end the uncertainty by signing, without delay, the 2018 #ElectoralBill. This would allow @INECNigeria and all concerned parties to prepare on time for a credible process in the upcoming General Election.
