Supervisor Nathan Magsig admits to faults with his poll on potentially changing the name of Squaw Valley because of its offensive echoes.
The results of the flawed poll was very decisive, though, as he mentions in this video clip. Top 3 suggestions if it has to change were Bear Mountain, Bear Valley, and Dunlap Extension.
Dept. of Interior suggested Yokuts Valley.

I’m sensing a lot of anxiety in Mariposa about the deaths of Jonathan Gerrish, Ellen Chung, their 1-year-old daughter, and their dog on a hiking trail in August.
Not knowing the cause of death has people speculating about nearby dangers.
Answers coming at 2 p.m.

📸 Steven Jeffe We’ll carry the press conference LIVE on @abc30 at 2 p.m. and I’ll file stories for 4, 5, and 6 p.m.

WARNING: Language in photos is reprehensible and racist.

Black-owned Clovis store, Just My Essentials, was vandalized overnight.
@ClovisPolice_CA are now investigating.

“BLM” crossed out, N-bombs marked instead, and products taken and destroyed. @ClovisPolice_CA Owner Chanel Wapner says she's the *only* Black store owner in the @OldTownClovis area and this isn't the first time she's been a target for hatred.

The Bad News Bears #Yankees are back, but keeping it close despite creating a quick strike 1st inning 3-run rally for Miami, terrible fielding, and only 6 baserunners in 6 innings, 2 of whom were erased by double plays. 7 baserunners in 7 innings, 3 of whom were erased by doubles plays.
So essentially, 4 baserunners in 7 innings and it’s still a game they could win by turning one of those DPs into an HR in these last couple innings.
But would the #BadNewsBears #ScrantonYankees do that?

#BREAKING: @CityofFresno will release the independent auditor's review of the London Wallace case "no later than the end of next week."
They talked to John Gliatta and will release excluded review as a supplement to 2nd quarter report.

Prior @abc30 story:

Confusing Tuesday update from the state.
They have Fresno County meeting the metrics to get out of purple.
Awesome, right?
Caveat #1: A county needs to do it two weeks in a row to change tiers.
Caveat #2: Check the stat I circled.
(1/2) Image It doesn’t match the state’s own data for the raw number of new cases per day in this county, and by a significant enough margin to keep us from qualifying for the red tier this week.
I’m not working @ABC30 today, but I’m about to ask Dr. Rais Vohra for details. Image

UPDATE: Fresno County reported 11 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday for a total of 348.
The county reported 453 new cases in the last 4 days, so 114 per day.
And they reported 9915 tests, so the positivity rate was 4.6%.
Recoveries up 1000. 61% have recovered.
Active cases = 10,084. Image The latest mortality review covers the first 339 deaths.
93 patients had no underlying conditions. 32 of those were under the age of 65.
246 had co-morbidities, with diabetes and high blood pressure being the top 2.
204 of the 339 COVID victims in this county were Hispanic. (60%) Image

BREAKING: Judge Tharpe issues an injunction ordering @ImmanuelbyFaith to immediately cease and desist in person instruction.
The ruling does not end the school’s fight, but it puts more legal weight behind Fresno County’s health officer order.
@ABC30 Image Judge Tharpe said of the Court’s decision “based on the materials before it, the court determines that it is reasonably probable that the County will prevail on the merits” at trial. Image

UPDATE: Fresno County reports a total of 26640 coronavirus cases, up just 75 today.
It's only one day, but that's just about the pace we need to get out of purple.
I missed Tuesday's county update, so I'll have some stats from that in this thread. Image But first, state hospital data shows the reduced hospital population now reflected in a reduced ICU population.
(I've said many time that deaths are a lagging indicator. So are ICU hospitalizations.)
168 COVID patients today is fewest since July 7.
36 in ICU, fewest since July 3. Image

BREAKING: The California Supreme Court has ruled *against* Reedley's @ImmanuelbyFaith and other schools that had challenged the closures indicated by the state's coronavirus emergency order.
The Court's opinion is not yet posted. @ImmanuelbyFaith Fresno County's injunction case is still set for a local judge to hear next week, but county leaders anticipated he would follow the lead of the California Supreme court.

Auberry Road is blocked at Highway 168 and an evacuation order is now in effect for Auberry.
@CAL_FIRE crews are heading to the area near Mono Wind Casino. Traffic is a mess as people scramble to get up the road for a variety of rescues.
We talked to two men from Clovis trying to evacuate an older man. CHP called Fresno County sheriff’s office to help.

UPDATE: Fresno County reports 22 new deaths from COVID-19 over the last three days.
This week was by far the worst with 49 deaths.
Some positives here, still.
This represents 1508 new cases this week, about 215/day and the lowest weekly total since the last full week of June. Image Those 1508 cases were identified from 20749 tests, so the positivity rate dipped below 8% (at 7.3%) for the first time since June.
1552 recoveries this week. Almost 53% of infected people have recovered.

UPDATE: Fresno County reports 27 new coronavirus deaths, bringing the total to 290.
But deaths are a lagging indicator and the bad news ends there, I think.
We're averaging 219 new cases a day since the last report, 220 over the last 7 days.
The testing positivity rate was 6.8%. Image We got 877 new cases since Friday and 12826 tests.
Recoveries are up 666.

The 27 deaths are a horrible stat, no doubt, but those are usually people infected weeks ago and fewer people are getting infected now, so expect deaths to drop in coming weeks.

UPDATE: Fresno County reports 24 new coronavirus deaths since Tuesday's report and a total of 263.
That's the bad news.
The good news is this number represents 1862 new cases this week (266/day) as opposed to 3053 last week (436/day.) Image Also, this is the first time the number of recovered patients eclipsed the number of active cases.
1165 new recoveries since Tuesday, 1686 this week.

First day if school and everybody is coming for in person instruction at Immanuel in violation of state orders and despite a warning from Fresno County public health officials. We broke the story @ABC30 last night at 6.
Today, we’re joined by other media in documenting this first day of school, including police patrols like we usually see at any schools early in a school year.

UPDATE: Fresno County reports 14 new coronavirus deaths, bringing the weekly total to 33. That's by far the worst week of the pandemic for this county.
16641 total cases is 1091 since Tuesday.
4863 test results recorded during that time.
Positivity rate is 22.4%. Image For the week, that's 2202 new cases or about 315 a day.
And the positivity rate for the last week is 23.1%. Not good at all.

On the plus side, the county recorded 1653 recoveries this week, bringing the total up to 6505.

9965 active cases right now.
