In 2015, I wrote "We Too Sing America", a book about South Asian, Arab, Muslim & Sikh immigrants post 9/11. One chapter, called "Ferguson is Everywhere", includes stories of solidarity centering Palestinian activists. I'm offering the chapter here:

I wanted to share this chapter to provide a part of movement history, to recognize that the solidarity happening today was seeded intentionally decades ago. For ex, during the Ferguson uprising, long-standing alliances b/w @stlpsc & @OBS_STL made it possible to galvanize quickly.

This is sadly not new. @StopAAPIHate has documented 3,000 reports of hate around the US in the past year. @HelenZiaReal wrote last April about 45's use of hateful anti-Chinese rhetoric in describing #COVID and the effects on Asian Americans: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…

WHITE "ALLIES": #BreonnaTaylor was murdered in Louisville - shot eight times when three officers forcibly entered her apartment. I grew up in Louisville & I've been wondering: where *are* the white people I went to school with when it comes to confronting anti-Black racism? (1/5)
White silence equals complicity with white supremacy. If white people truly want to be allies in ending anti-Black racism, that requires listening to Black activists & centering the needs and demands of those most affected by state violence. (2/5)
