Our hearts break for #LosAngeles. As wildfires and continue to threaten Californians, we remain unprepared to protect vulnerable folks from climate hazards.
Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar has yet to be evacuated;
Across CA, 6 state prisons are in vulnerable wildfire zone; 1/
And, as it's been widely reported, incarcerated firefighters are on the frontlines, risking their lives for our communities — for pennies.
Our leaders owe it to them — and frankly to our communities — to protect incarcerated folks from these dangers. 2/
