Many people struggle with writing – including my students. This is why, I started my WRITING LAB: four 90 min sessions with hands-on advice and exercises. The first session focused on OUTLINING, often the first step in writing. A thread 🧵… Image My students had to create an outline based on 25 text snippets. This took them way longer (>> 50 min) than anticipated but they still found it a useful exercise. How did I prepare the snippets? I found #ChatGPT to be immensely useful for that task (see picture for prompts). Image

Having seen yesterday’s thread 👇 you may have wondered whether you need to change your assignments. I have played with one of the leading text-generation tools: Jasper AI – and have since decided to scrap some of my beloved assignments. For tasks such as essays, automated text generation works already quite well. Easily accessible tools will become available to students (almost) for free. As teachers, we will have to adapt our assessments. How exactly? A thread. 1/n For generic writing prompts, students will submit high-quality texts that cannot be spotted by plagiarism detection tools. Thus, fair assessment is not possible with generic writing prompts any more – at least if students work on them on their own (which they should). 2/n

Problem: #Fernklausuren sind meist papierbasiert, weil sie ggf. gleichzeitig als Präsenzprüfung angeboten werden müssen. Wir entwickeln/erproben daher an der @uni_bamberg_of eine Lösung für „Fern-E-Prüfungen“, die zu Hause und in Präsenz *direkt am Rechner* bearbeitet werden. Image Unterstützt werden wir dabei mit einer Sachmittelzuwendung für Laptops vom Bayerischen Kompetenzzentrum für Fernprüfungen. 🙏
