“I will not go home at night feeling that there has been another degradation to our society in New Brunswick.”

- Blaine Higgs, speaking to a motion in the House on Dec. 18, 2014 re: abortion access in NB

So, Higgs said increased abortion access would degrade our society. I feel the loss of Clinic 554, which is a family practice with a focus on reproductive, trans*, LGBT/Queer, and HIV care, is a degradation of our society. Successive governments have refused to properly fund reproductive healthcare in NB, resulting in the closure of #Clinic554.

It is completely unacceptable that people exercising their right to assemble to protest the closure of @SaveClinic554 due to government’s refusal to follow the Canada Health Act were kicked off the lawn of the Legislature last night. As an MLA, I oppose what happened to those fighting for reproductive justice in New Brunswick. People must have the right to assemble and protest their government and that right has been violated. This requires an apology and I will work to ensure that this never happens again.

No, the Liberals don't need to save our hospital.

WE already saved our hospital. Together: me, the Hospital Steering Committee, and every single one of you who wrote letters, emails, made calls, and who came out and rallied with us in the streets. Image Together, we got Higgs to declare back in March that ER closures were off the table, something that he has repeated nearly daily throughout this election campaign.

It broke my heart this week to hear about the closing of the Black Duck Café and Thunder & Lightning. These local businesses are what makes Sackville unique and vibrant. Their owners took a risk by opening a business and contributed immensely to our community. Now, in the face of a pandemic, countless challenges and so much uncertainty, they've made these tough decisions.

In these unprecedented times, we need to ensure that entrepreneurs and small business owners, and their employees, get the support they need to adapt,...

I want to wish everyone who is celebrating a Happy Easter and a Happy Passover! This is a great opportunity to (virtually) check-in with family, friends, and loved ones this long weekend. These are challenging times and our routines and traditions have been disrupted. ImageImage I hope in the midst of this pandemic, that we can all find ways to take care of ourselves, take care of one another, and find something moments of joy.

Our community has a special relationship with Nova Scotia because we live along the border. People are used to crossing the border to buy groceries, to go to work, to get healthcare. Under the State of Emergency, those who are crossing the border for work are still able to do so. I am concerned that there has been confusion about the self-isolation rules, which is resulting in essential workers not being able to buy groceries. Essential workers that are required to cross NS border for work are not required to self-isolate when they return to their home.

My Valentine to Minister Flemming:
“To: Ted

Don’t cut our services!”

Image What an amazing turnout at the rally today. Our community will fight to maintain our services and our hospital. We can help solve the problems we face - but only if we are consulted. Our communities have a strong, united voice and it's time for government to listen. Image

"Has this government considered people living in rural areas, people without cars or who have transportation barriers, especially students and seniors?"

24-hour ER coverage in Sackville at risk | SaltWire saltwire.com/news/local/24-… Who has been consulted? So far, everyone I has spoken with feels shocked. Decisions about our healthcare and our hospital should be made with input from our communities.

One of the vital services provided at the Sackville Memorial Hospital is the Emergency Room. To think that the government might close it for almost half of the day, every day, is absolutely unacceptable. Our hospital doesn’t just serve people in Sackville. Our hospital serves the neighbouring and rural communities across the riding of Memramcook-Tantramar. This is not the first time that our community has had to fight to maintain our hospital and its services. I will continue to fight with you.

Today, the Bell Let's Talk flag was raised at the NB Legislature. Our governments, PM, & Premier tweeted about Bell. So, these governments support corporate mental health awareness raising campaigns, but don't prioritize mental health enough to adequately fund health care?
THREAD Every year, Bell Let's Talk Day pops up on social media for a week or so, and mental health struggles become top of mind. We tend to focus on depression and anxiety, which are serious and widespread in New Brunswick and Canada. And every year, I feel conflicted about it...

Nurse practitioners (NPs) can play a vital role in improving access to primary health care and to taking the pressure off of emergency rooms in New Brunswick. I am very pleased that Minister Flemming announced that 32 NPs will be hired across the province. I’ve said that we didn’t need more pilot projects, we need more NPs, and I’m glad that the Minister of Health has listened. The Port Elgin and Region Health Centre is a great example of how even just one NP can make a huge different in a rural community.

It is outrageous that we are willing to accept that 1 in 5 children live in poverty in New Brunswick. For children 0-6 years old, the rate is even higher: 1 in 4 children living in poverty. It doesn't have to be this way. There are solutions outlined in the report... (1/8) Image and they line up with what we as Greens have been pushing for - we need affordable housing, we need living wages, we need adequate amounts of social assistance, and we certainly need government to stop clawing back so much money from the poorest people in our province (2/8)
