🚨#homegrownslavery & EU citizens - April 4th 18:00-19:00
Many employers do not understand immigration status documents. Faced with fines for getting it wrong, they are afraid to employ refugees and other non-EU migrants. Brexit only exacerbates the situation, as it is no longer clear to employers which EU migrants have the right to work in the UK. This creates a climate in which we face discrimination, exploitation and even unlawful detention

Institutional racism does not exist, they said, last year. google.com/amp/s/www.inde… Also, while some remain deeply invested in the idea that forced labour has nothing to do with structural inequalities, or that in this context race and gender matter little, there is an abundance of research that demonstrates that poverty and labour exploitation disproportionately impact women, lower castes, and non-white and indigenous people.

Dear Brothers and sisters EU citizens,

Two weeks ago,we won the @HumanTraffFdn 's Anti-slavery day Awards 2021 in the category 'Empowering Survivors Voices'.
While some remain deeply invested in the idea that forced labour has nothing to do with structural inequalities,or that in this context race and gender matter little, based on our lived experience, we can say that what we call #homegrownslavery is rooted in race and immigration status discrimination. Unlike modern slavery , homegrown slavery can be tackled very easily.

"While British survivors of Modern Slavery are now recognised as the largest cohort in referrals to the National Referral Mechanism, the Government’s framework for identifying victims, their voices are not being heard." And #labourmigrationcontrol measures shaft migrants, who have the legal right to work, into slavery. But we only talk about international human trafficking for modern slavery. Between 13-18 Dec, for the International Migrants' day, we will bring you events, workshops, radio show in

@JCWI_UK @VirendraSharma It is how #homegrownslavery is created. Immigration law creates vulnerability. We have been saying this for a very longtime. The government is responsible for modern slavery. @JCWI_UK @VirendraSharma We don't know if people realise how important this piece research is. We don't have the resources to produce any research, so thank you Jcwi for this research. This paper shows that the government is 82% responsible for #homegrownslavery. The new immigration bill is on its way

"People claiming asylum or human rights protections will be required to provide relevant information relating to being a victim of slavery or human trafficking within a specified period. If they provide information outside of that period, they will need to provide a statement setting out their reasons for doing so." it is extremely challenging for victims of modern slavery to come forward. Now we will have to collect evidence from their perpetrators. gov.uk/government/spe… the government is handing over the perfect legislation

What is the legal difference between EU pre-Settled Status and Settled Status, in terms of employment rights ? None
However, In practice, many employers think it means half rights. If we apply for a full time permanent job, some employers will change it to a full time temp job, or refuse to take us on until we get the complete settled status. These unlawfully practices impact on EEA now, but it could have been prevented cos non-EEA& EEA from BAME background have been going through similar experience since 1994. It became worse in 2008(picture)
