@haaretzcom The flaw Yoffie's argument is the idea that Israel's "plan" has any chance of success, or ever did. One even wonders if it was a plan or simply revenge. I am not a kid, having recently turned 80. And I am conflicted. @haaretzcom ... I firmly believe that nothing in Israel's horrible treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza justifies Hamas' brutal attack on October 7. Some bold response was needed. But how many decades will it take for Israel to cease to be a pariah among the nations....

A 🧵

Tanka You

In lines short and tight
We acknowledge what we've received.
Though "Thank You" seems small
For the blessings we possess,
For joy we have come to know.
/1
We do seek much more:
Peace and healthy lives for those
Caught in strife and need.
It is not enough for us
To dip once more in pockets.

The Court sits isolated, a barricaded like the Court of a terrified despot. Nd it's behaving that way. Issuing ruling after ruling based on false notions of "history and traditions," which have no basis in our jurisprudence, while ignoring the tradition of giving weight to precedent, the historical basis of our law.

Thread - A poem for New Year's Eve

I have peeked into the future
Lifted the cover, so to speak.
With squinted eyes
I have glimpsed what the future has in store. /2

But I have not opened the pages wide
Or looked at them straight on.

Clear Blue Skies

I remember the clear blue sky. I was hiking along the Highline Trail at Glacier National Park. Mountain goats and sheep dotted the rugged landscape. The day before I had hiked on the other side of the mountain, the other side of the Continental Divide...

1/18 ....climbing almost straight up, it seemed to me, along waterfalls past several glacial lakes to the lower edge of Grinnell Glacier. Looking up I could see an arête, a narrow sharp ridge, far above, with wisps of clouds seeming to surround it. . . .

And then the questioning began
But they did not question
They made speeches
When he tried to answer
The shouted over
When he started to answer
They shouted, "Reclaiming my time." Reclaiming my time
Time waisted
Time lost
Opportunity cost
"I am reclaiming my time."
