We’ve gone full circle from telling people to “Google it” back to “Let me tell you how this works because you can’t trust Google.”

There’s a reason for this. The reason goes by the name of Prabhakar Raghavan.

Now with the addition of bad AI search results, we’re 0 for 2. businessinsider.com/google-ai-sear…

Have you ever reported anything to HR?

Here’s how one of my issues went once:
> Coworker was being aggressive, sexist, bullying
> Had mediation session
> Coworker denied behaviors whilst actively doing them in the moment
> Coworker admitted to stalking my work activities… > After mediation session, coworker’s behaviors got worse
> They continued to retaliate, but more covertly
> I point it out, nothing happens
> In-person team meeting is scheduled
> HR said to me, “Don’t be alone with him. Don’t put yourself in a position where he could hurt you.”

This kind of stuff genuinely scares me. We have people who are like, “I’m not justifying violence, but if my kid got beat to a pulp by an adult at school, I’d hope he learned a valuable lesson.” Like???

That’s child abuse! What??? Please stop. I’ve had enough… I more so specialize in domestic violence and sexual assault victim’s advocacy, but in the same vein, the normalization of violence and the justification thereof is why it’s so perpetuated and cyclical. In this case, the suggestion is that kids gain value from abuse.

If you ever feel like an impostor working in infosec, let me tell you that I’ve also heard that from the absolutely most expert people I know. People that have created tools and frameworks, people that have successfully responded to huge incidents, all kinds of amazing people… This field is tough! Plus, it’s always changing!

There will always be more you don’t know and learning is a continuous journey. It makes you feel small, it’s very overwhelming. Just know that you are smart, you are capable, and you’re probably being incredibly hard on yourself.

How to not respond to someone asking you why they laughed at their past experiences regarding being targeted with hate and violence for being LGBTQ+… I simply asked:

I posted about this yesterday, but I wanted to create a thread that further explains why everything about this is really messed up and deeply unethical. Additionally, I’ll give some guidance at the end on what we can all do as a response.

A thread 🧵 So, for starters: What exactly is going on here?

The best way to summarize it is that Rob Morris, the co-founder of Koko, a tech-based nonprofit that boasts improving the accessibility of mental health, heavily violated the necessary steps to engage in a clinical trial. CW: Eating disorders, discrimination, fatphobia

I see others talk down to fat people. There’s an assumption if someone is slim or fit, they must automatically be more disciplined, “healthier”, or know *more* about health. As a former bodybuilder, I’m here to say that’s not true. This is such a common misconception.

To add, being fat does not mean someone is immoral, lazy, or deserving of any kind of ridicule. Being fat is not a “personal failing.”

I opened YouTube on my phone to search for a video.

The first thing I see is a huge, misleading ad that looks like an iPhone error message.

So, I did what any infosec person would do and performed some research on that app in question. Phone Cleaner—Clean Storage is essentially an app dedicated to “deleting duplicate photos and videos” to presumably “clear up space.”

But, that’s not all it does. It also collects handfuls of information about your location, your phone, your search habits, and “other data.”

Blocked by another “infosec” person because I very politely mentioned how one of their tweets could come across as ableist. (Without even using the term.)

Their response was, “I know disability isn’t a factor here, if someone gets offended by my words it’s out of my control.” If you’re making fun of people for the way they write, their grammar, and/or how they talk- they very well could be blind, deaf, dyslexia, dysgraphia, or something similar.

Having “better grammar” isn’t a sign of superiority.

This morning, as I prepare my coffee, let me tell you a tale of a time when I was affected by the #wagegap. This one’s a doozy.

When I first became an #infosec analyst, the #CISO had intended that I make $65k which was a fair wage for the position, region, and etc.

1/? The #IT management and #HR had all agree and the paperwork was printed out. The #CTO volunteered to send it to me, even though he was technically in a separate department.

Now, I didn’t know that the wage was supposed to be $65k, I wasn’t a part of these convos.
