BREAKING: @Citi orders NYPD to arrest 63-year-old grandfather & professional cellist John Mark Rozendaal for performing Bach at its HQ.
Since June 10, climate activists have protested Citi for funding fossil fuels. 3 weeks ago, Citi obtained an unconstitutional restraining order barring John Mark and another activist, Alec Connon, from continuing to protest at its HQ.
Defying Citi's attempt to muzzle peaceful protest, they returned to Citi today – risking up to 7 years in prison. In response, Citi called the NYPD to arrest John Mark.
As police moved in, 14 others, including Alec, encircled John Mark and were also arrested.
How did we get here?
With the climate crisis getting worse every day, we need courage and boldness to confront companies like @Citi, which has financed more new coal, oil and gas than any other bank in the world since 2016.
Enter #SummerOfHeat on Wall St: a historic, multi-month campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience to end fossil fuel financing.
When you’re choking on wildfire smoke, when your house gets flooded during a storm, when heatwaves kill those you love, remember this face: Henry Kravis.

KKR invested nearly $15 billion into fracked gas, offshore drilling, LNG terminals, and pipelines in the last 2 years.

EMERGENCY: New York lawmakers are about to pass a budget that undermines everything they say they believe in and doubles down on the racist criminalization of poverty. Thread. 1/
After months of talking about the need to address the troubling increase in gun violence, NY leaders are trying to push a bill that targets victimless, low-level crimes of poverty like jumping the turnstile or mothers who can’t afford diapers for dangerous pre-trial jailing. /2

Here's @NBCnewyork misinforming its audience on #bailreform with a claim that Mayor Adams wants judges to have discretion to hold “gun criminals” in jail. It's false and misleading on many levels – and a distraction from what's really needed to improve community safety. 🧵/1
Putting aside the dehumanizing and inaccurate “gun criminal” label, NBC is attempting to cover the fight over bail reform, which impacts people who are presumed innocent and convicted of nothing. /2

There have been a lot of bad takes about New York State Senate races, so we’re setting the record straight.
1) THERE ARE NO FINAL COUNTS. A record number of people voted by mail, and none of these votes have been counted yet. #CountEveryVote2) For now, it seems the Democrats will maintain a significant majority in the NY Senate, overcoming deeply gerrymandered districts DESIGNED to elect Republicans, and yet Republicans are trying to spin this as their victory. Check out the district map of SD 22:

As an organization that fights for poor people in NYC we’ve seen the violence that Wall Street policies do to our communities first hand. For that reason we’ve taken it on ourselves to highlight the influence New York’s billionaire elite have wielded in the Democratic Primary.
We push the envelope to confront politicians on stances that hurt our families. In doing so, we went too far in our protest of Vice President Biden. Our anger over his previous votes should not have clouded our judgment. We apologize to Vice President Biden.
