A lot of you folks have seen the @CloudNativeFdn recent End User Technology Radar that was recently published - radar.cncf.io/2020-09-observ…

It has generated some discussion, but folks I know say takeaways aren't obvious. I've done Observability (TM) for 10 years, here are mine. 1/9 CNCF published a methodology on how they did this, but they basically asked different companies to classify the observability (and monitoring!) technologies they are using into Adopt, Trial, Assess. radar.cncf.io/how-it-works

Now here's the interesting part: 2/9

Reading on Twitter that a lot of DevRel folks are concerned about conference cancellations. I was in that role previously for a highly technical product. Speaking and talking to folks at the booth is only part of the game. 1/ If the conf was highly aligned with your product niche, this can be a concern for your outreach efforts. But it also represents an opportunity. Attendees already know they want to see your talk and have probably followed you on Twitter. 2/

Watch. This. Talk. The closest I've gotten with a Prometheus style bin structure was 43 bins. Relative errors are near 10% worst case, but absolute errors acceptable. For a large app though, any more bins with separate time series means cardinality is too high.

Use HDR if you can.

Just went through an IT obstacle course buying Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer original show on iTunes. It's on Youtube but doesn't render correctly on AppleTV (surprise?)

It costs $9.99 on the Apple store. Had to enter my iTunes password over the Siri remote. Clicked through the letters and scrolled like a late 90's cellphone text message since the Siri voice input didn't work.
