Sometimes I hear people say “I’m not very good at writing” but they don’t realize it’s a practiced skill just like drawing. You have to run through a ton of badly written scenes/ scripts to learn how to write. Here’s some tips I’ve learned over the years. Number 1) don’t write without a specific voice in mind for every character. I’ll use a friend or even actor or combination to get a clear voice in my head. Don’t write generic characters make them specific.

This Under the banner of heaven show brings up a lot of memories as someone raised in an extremist Mormon cult. When that dude thinks god is talking to him and jumps up screaming, I was surrounded by that madness. our cult’s history: Back in the day when Joseph Smith started stealing people’s wives and r*ping their daughters, about half the church got it in their head he was possessed by the devil. He’d translated the plates but then been tempted. So they split off to form a separate cult

After 100 trillion years all the stars have gone out and that remains is Dave. And Lord Baby Cabbage Head who Dave speaks to telepathically.

I quit the studio system because I wanted to make cool stuff and people literally told me “bring us something less cool with pop music, like Trolls.” I’m still not free to create original stuff until October, but I can’t wait to make cool independent animation I think animated films can have a strong vision like a Coen Brother’s film. I think they can impact people on every emotional level.
