Revisiting Mithi river two decades after Mumbai’s worst deluge. We at @TOIMumbai travelled through the entire 17.8 km stretch of Mithi river starting out from Vihar lake upto Mahim causeway. Here’s our account of what’s truly changed, what remains stuck, and whether Mumbai is any closer to taming its most talked-about urban waterway.

To pinpoint the exact origin of the Mithi River, one must access the high-security premises of Vihar Lake, where its spill directly feeds into the river. While Powai Lake also contributes to the Mithi, its overflow is visible further downstream. Within the Vihar Lake premises, a high retaining wall, metal grills, and a wide tiled pathway mark the point where the overflow begins its descent into the Mithi. When Vihar overflows, its excess water flows directly into the Mithi river.

The @mybmc has cautioned residents to be wary of stingrays and jellyfish, which become visible along the Mumbai coast from August to October. The Department of Fisheries, in a recent letter, noted that the 'Blue Button Jellyfish' and 'Sting Ray' species are more abundant(contd) in Mumbai's waters during the months of August to October. Officials from the Fisheries Department recently inspected Juhu Chowpatty and subsequently urged the BMC to take necessary precautions against 'Jellyfish bites' for the safety of citizens.  (Contd)

#BMC on Tuesday appealed to citizens residing in #Mulund West area to filter and boil water for drinking until further notice. This was as water tunnel conveying water from source to BMC's Bhandup complex water treatment plant which passes below ground through Thane city,(1/3) has been damaged while the work of digging of borewell (in Thane) was ongoing. Therefore, the water supply coming to Bhandup complex through the water tunnel of BMC had to be stopped for the repair of the water tunnel.

As the railway authorities today completed, 85% work of dismantling #CarnacBridge in South Mumbai, dwelling a bit into its history. The bridge was built between 1866-67 & opened in 1868 for “Public Traffic”, according to the inscription on it. It is an iron and masonry bridge which has been named after James Rivett Carnac, the Governor of the Bombay Presidency from the year 1839 to 1842. As numbers of sealed buildings in #Mumbai have increased over the past few days owing to rising covid cases, the BMC chief IS Chahal in a meeting held on Monday said that sealing of buildings with over five or more positive cases should be strictly done again. He also instructed to ensure the presence of police personnel outside a sealed building. Over the past few days, at least seven buildings were sealed in the western suburbs which included those from #Kandivali and buildings from #Bandra 's Pali Hill
