Now, as promised I want to tell you about the humans of @devdatalab -- @thesamasher (ex philosophy major!) @paulnovosad (ex software developer!) need little introduction but I will add that they are also incredible mentors, and incredible people to work with and learn from 1/n @tobylunt : out third co-founder, is a data wizard. Toby double times as chief data scientist & writes programs with insane capabilities.. I mean have you checked out his Walt Whitman bot on his website? tobiaslunt.com/projects/ 2/n

Last summer, @devdatalab released another open-access platform: devdatalab.org/covid: a one-stop shop with Covid case counts linked to health infra. data (hospitals, beds, doctors perk persons), demographic, sanitation data etc. (from censuses) + mandi data from Agmark. 1/n Again, seamless linking across all these data platforms at a granular district/block etc. level (normally we've seen such data disaggregated by state) is much more useful for policy/civil society, & allows for stunning analysis such as the plot below (courtesy @alicampion13 ) 2/n

🧵on research using the SHRUG so far

@thesamasher @paulnovosad
have already put out a *lot* of interesting research based on the SHRUG. I'll be sharing the big insight from each paper below to get your thinking caps working for what you can do with the SHRUG! 1/n @samasher @paulnovosad @CharlesRafkin find re: intergenerational mobility:
😶mobility has not changed much across 1950-1980s male birth cohorts.
🙂mobility has risen for SC & ST groups.
😟mobility has fallen substantially for Muslims, now the least ⬆️mobile social group in 🇮🇳 2/n

Happy Sunday! As promised, today I’ll be walking you through all the hyperclean open data that you could be accessing today at devdatalab.org. Let’s get right into it! 1/n @devdatalab is about a year old, was founded by @paulnovosad @thesamasher @tobylunt with the aim to radically transform India's open data landscape. It's a tech-policy startup with 9 data scientists/econs running the ship. I promise to tell you more about my A+ peers too! 2/n

I grew up across Jharkhand , West Bengal and Orissa. In 7th grade I convinced father to send me to a boarding school way beyond our means. He took an 11 yr old seriously bc he swears by intergenerational mobility having spent a lot of his childhood at refugee camp! 1/n Dad’s story is infinitely more interesting than mine but it deserves a📖not a🧵. At boarding school, I first started getting frustrated about the gender gap since the neighboring boys boarding school had infinitely more resources! 2/n
