It might be confusing, so we’re here to clear the air. We are NOT affiliated with Women’s March Canada and we’ve outlined our reasons in this statement: womenmarchontoronto.nationbuilder.com/women_march_on… but will also do so here in a thread. 1/11
We’re the original group of volunteers who came together to organize one of the biggest marches our city has seen in a long time (potentially ever). 2/11 
Women’s March Canada (WMC) was formed in response to the U.S. election and became an ad hoc umbrella for groups planning local marches and others who organized bus trips to the march in Washington. 3/11
Following the 2017 marches, WMC transformed into a new entity whose - in our opinion - structure and direction differ greatly from the collection of grassroots groups who worked hard to organize the local marches in communities across Canada. 4/11
The WMC brand derives its worth and legitimacy in Canada from the labour of all the grassroots organizing committees who brought the Women’s March movement to communities across this country. 5/11
Unfortunately, this new entity, with its ownership culture, is in our experience unwilling to give credit to, or work cooperatively with, the local teams who helped build this movement. 6/11
Example: Our march has been posted on the WMC site without our consent and no credit has been given to our committee on this page. They’re also collecting data on behalf of our event. 7/11
We believe that the values of Women’s March Canada do not align with our own deeply held belief in inclusive and intersectional grassroots activism. 8/11
Many other local organizing committees across Canada, having come to the same conclusion regarding their own distinct existence from the WMC corporation, have united under the banner of @MarchOn_Canada. 9/11
