#Parliament reconvenes today for the final #BudgetSession of this govt. We are watching out for two key bills: the Aadhaar Amendments Bill and the DNA Bill. Concerned citizens have sent a letter to @MVenkaiahNaidu and @narendramodi demanding withdrawal and scrutiny of the Bills.

Briefly, the #AadhaarAmendmentsBill seeks to circumvent the SC Judgment on #Aadhaar and allow private entities to use Aadhaar-based biometric authentication/ eKYC. In effect, the Bill gives the govt power to create new laws allowing private entities to use the Aadhaar number.

We remain deeply concerned that the government has shown no urgency regarding the #DataProtectionBill, nor has it ensured that #Aadhaar-based authentication is used only on a purely voluntary basis even for subsidies and welfare schemes as recommended by the SC.

The DNA Bill similarly represents another attempt to collect citizen data without any concern for the grave personal security risks posed. The DNA Bill was rushed through Lok Sabha without any public consultation or scrutiny by a Parliamentary Standing Committee.

Screenshots of our full statement about the Letter of Concern are enclosed. We urge everyone to reach out to Rajya Sabha MPs and emphasise that the #AadhaarAmendmentsBill and #DNABill should both be sent to a Select Committee for review.

Please use the following tweet as a sample if reaching out to MPs on social media.
