1) If need be, #Iran can - under a state of exception - withdraw into itself, ration essential goods, enforce strict austerity policies and wait for more suitable political circumstances in D.C for eventual negotiations.

2) Meanwhile, it can withdraw from the #NPT, decrease its level of commitment to the #JCPOA, and institute a precautionary inspections regime in the Strait of Hormuz that would slow down shipping traffic while shooting up the price of oil.

3) The Iranian government has done this before during the 1980s when it ran the country on a $7 billion budget which encompassed $4 billion in war expenditures; And can do it again.

4) The question is, would other countries have the luxury of imposing similar austerity measures on their population if the price of oil increases by N folds?

5) For example, can the French government, who's been for months embroiled in an unprecedented political drama over a slight fuel tax increase, effectively deal with its #GiletsJaunes" phenomenon in case of an unwarranted Oil crisis?
