After two full years of marches, rallies, petitions, city hall speeches, town hall meetings, teach-ins, library exhibits, op-eds, conference papers, workshops, etc., etc. the University of Chicago's administration still refuses to even discuss its historical ties to slavery.

This is despite the fact that @TheRAUC's findings have now gone through multiple peer reviews---publishing first on @BlkPerspectives aaihs.org/a-case-for-rep… and then in the @JAAHistory journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/69…

This is truly unprecedented for an institution with ties to slavery. Not only is it ignoring local Black community members but UChicago has effectively become a slavery denier--gaslighting the entire historical profession and some of its most respected professional organizations.

Once thought to be a bastion of rigorous academic inquiry, my beloved alma mater can only be described today as a post-truth university when it comes to their ties to slavery. It's really unprecedented. And the argument they use to justify it is just garbage.

I truly hope the profession can rally around this issue and encourage the administration to change course. The writing is on the wall. Faculty, staff, students, and community members are all ready to have this conversation. Only the admin remains in denial. #Reparations
