Grateful to a friend for picking up these volumes from #Iran of #Mahbubalqulub of Qutb al-Din Ashkivari (d. c. 1692) a student of #MirDamad on history of philosophy #IslamicPhilosophy 1/

The work comprises three volumes the first two of which appeared as critical editions with #MiraseMaktub in #Tehran around 20 years ago - there is still no edition of volume 3 #IslamicPhilosophy #HistoryofPhilosophy 2/

Volume 1 is on pre-Islamic thinkers and has an extensive discussion on #Zoroaster as well as the Quranic sage #Luqman and a prophetic conception of the beginnings of philosophy with #Seth and then #Hermes_Idris following #Shahrazuri (d. 1288) 3/

Volume 2 covers the thinkers of Islam all the way to #SayyidGhiyathalDinDashtaki (d. 1542) with an appendix on famous sufis 4/

Mathieu Terrier of #CNRS wrote a useful article and a book introducing the text and translating volume 1 editionsducerf.fr/librairie/livr… #IslamicPhilosophy 5/

Volume 3 is primarily a history of the #ShiiImams followed by an appendix on major #Shii theologians from #Kulayni to #MirDamad 6/

Overall the work is one of a grand synthesis in which #Neoplatonism and a conception of the sacred origins of philosophy are reconciled with teachings of #ShiiTheology putting together #Plato #Plotinus and the #Imams in a continuous quest for explaining reality 7/
