#China
extends its crackdown in #Xinjiang
beyond its borders and intimidates #Uyghurs, #Kazakhs and others overseas. All countries hosting members of the
#Uyghur diaspora should take measures to protect them.

Amnesty International has interviewed ex-detainees of the internment camps and Uyghurs living abroad who reported that they have missing friends or family members in Xinjiang. Their testimonies corroborate the news reports about what is happening in Xinjiang.

China selectively invited diplomats to visit Xinjiang. The Chinese authorities orchestrated these visits in the sense that the visitors can only visit the places and talk to the people they arranged.

We encourage the Malaysian government and other governments to engage with China strategically, coherently and consistently on human rights, pointing to shared obligations under international human rights law and the universality of human rights.

The voice from non-western countries is important to show that human rights are universal values.
