Update March 24 #COVID19 #Italy [thread] -- todays numbers are substantially in line with those of the last few days. New infected +5,249; deaths 743 (+12.2%); total number of infected +3,612 (+7.2%) #StayAtHome
1/ total number of tests increases by 7.8% and approx 1/4 of tests turned out positive. This confirms we tend to test people with symptoms.
2/ number of people in ICU increased by 6%, same low rate of the last few days
3/ also at regional level, there seems to be a generalized slow down, but growth rates are still large enough to be concerning. For the moment, we do not see the large increase in South that someone feared.
4/ summary figure does not change much: my take away is that situation is improving, but large number of open cases, unfortunately, might transalate in many more deaths (hopefully I am wrong on this). In mean time, #StayAtHome #staysafe #StayStrong
