/5 As ppl try their best to stay home, political leaders need to stop scolding us for not #socialdistancing & start addressing real issues: underfunded healthcare, unfair wages & working conditions of essential-service workers, imprisonment of ppl (ex: migrant facilities, jail).
/5 It is unjust for individuals to bear the brunt of #capitalism, which has caused these very issues by prioritizing money over ppl. Those who suffer the most are our most vulnerable: elderly who are more likely to die from #Covid_19 & students heading back to school this week.
/5 #Onlinelearning will never live up to the in-person experience. Children & youth will lose out on relationships w/ peers & caring adults, learning supports & personal growth. Students will suffer from the consequences of #capitalism b/c we're not addressing the real issues.
/5 Moving forward, what are the demands we can make on political leaders? How can we provide personal support to temporarily address these issues? How can we encourage students to play a societal role today & the future in creating systems that prioritize people over money?
/5 Stopping the spread of #Covid_19 is a tiny act, compared to what we actually need to deal with. Let's really try to answer those big questions as we continue to practice #socialdistancing.
